Tisch Chances

I was wondering if anyone that has any experience with NYU or that attends NYU could possibly help me figure out the chances of my being able to get into Tisch. I'm a Junior in High School and I'll graduate in 2011. I'll receive A's most of the time with the occasional high B. All of my classes have been honors classes (with the exception of a Physics class because an honors class in it wasn't offered). I currently am enrolled in 3 Dual Credit classes (Trigonometry/Statistics, History, and English). I have a pretty fair experience in the theatre, having worked in technical theatre, musical theatre, and theatre.

Academic:

(as of 7/7/09)
GPA-5.1500
ACT-27(first time to take it. Will be retaking it and hopefully raising my score)
Rank- 6th out of 135 (top 5%)

Theatrical/extracurricular experience:

-2008 UIL 3A State Champion in One Act Play
-Will have 4 years of Cross Examination Debate, Prose Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Humorous and Dramatic Interpretation, and Informative Extemporaneous Speaking upon graduation. Will have 2 years of solo and ensemble upon graduation.
-Codirected a community theatre production of Godspell and performed the role of Jesus in it.
-Have taken over two years of vocal training from an instructor with a doctorate degree.
-Codirected a community christmas show, The Ornament, and performed in it as well.
-Have attended a well known 2 week summer theatre camp for three years this summer.
-Extensive experience in community theatre(both ensemble and leading roles)
-Have worked with a variety of directors.
-Have performed roles in comedies and dramas.

Thespis, your grades would, I think, certainly put you in the running to pass the academic criteria for Tisch drama/acting, but there is really no way that anyone can ascertain your level of talent/promise/ability in acting from a post on an internet discussion board. It sounds like you have had some success locally in community and/or school theater, and that’s promising. But the only way to find out if you have what it takes – what Tisch wants, I should say – is to audition. Best wishes!

Do you also walk on water? LOL, JK, etc.

You’ll have to raise your ACT, mate. Yours is the equivalent of less than 1200 on the V and M parts of the SAT, which is too low for NYU’s regular admission standards although the academic admission is (so says NYU) about 50% of the decision.

Also, not sure if this is true, but college counselors, two to be exact, have told me that AP classes are better indicators of college success than dual enrollment classes taken at the local u or community college. Getting at least a 3 on an AP “looks” better on your transcript–at least that’s what I’ve been told. Those national tests/scores measure everyone by the same standards.
