Hi!
I have been lurking this forum for about a year or so now... I was just accepted to NYU/Tisch so I wanted to say congrats to all the others who have as well!

Someone was asking about the envelopes. Mine was large but thin, and came wrapped in the UPS envelope, no sign of NYU on it at all. But then of course I opened it and well... :D

hey! Congrats!

I got my ED acceptance to Steinhardt wednesday (I know!! I'm not a Tischie! Don't hurt me!) for Voice Performance--I got the concentration in classical, not mt, which was my first choice. Congrats to everyone :-)

~Dianne

Congrats to all, and happy happy holidays!!!!

I got my ED acceptance on Saturday. Tisch- the Lee Strasberg studio! Yay for Tischies

Yay Morningstar!

Hey I'm new to this, but I;ve been doing online research and this site comes up over and over...I got my letter sunday, I'm really happy...I applied to CAP frist choice since I went this summer but kind of had a change of heart and wanted acting training more after my school production of sweeney todd..and I visited Stella and loved it. So did anyone else get in?

And also, does anyone know the size of the freshman classes last year of the the six major studios (I already know CAP was 80 and Tech was 12)?

Thanks!

Saucyjew, I know you!!! hehehe! And you know who this is! HA! Love you!

I got in ED for Tisch- Strasberg!

Yeah, so good luck with that, I would be so worried about coming up with so much money. You must be dying to hear of any awards! I'll bet you are watching your mailboxes as much as we RDers are! lol

Financial aid awards come around the time of admissions decisions.

hi! i'm new on this site and will be a senior this fall. i REALLY want to apply to tisch ed as well. would you say your chances go up of getting in applying earlier? cap21 is my dream, but i would gladly accept any studio. if applying ed, when are the auditions usually???any other new info would be greatly appreciated since i know this thread is a bit dated.

Hi Sarahmazing, some people have said in the past that as less people apply ED, the odds of an acceptance may increase somewhat. However, what you need to know is that this means that you accept to go to the university without typically knowing what your financial aid package and/or scholarships will look like. Most people apply RD so that they can compare offers and pick the school that best fits their profile.

That said, if NYU is your dream school and the above does not play a key role, by all means apply ED. It worked out for my D, and she had the best Christmas ever when she received that acceptance.

In regard to auditions, for ED they only take place in New York, and they are typically during the weeks prior to Thanksgiving Week, I would say Mid November. Their appointment scheduler becomes available online Oct. 1st., and appointments tend to go fast, and so it makes sense to schedule your audition right away to secure the day/time that best works for you. You will be able to pick a certain day and an AM or PM slot, not an exact time, but since some of us are morning people, and others need some time to get going, this may be important :D.

Feel free to ask more questions as you start getting ready and Good Luck!

thanks! i have a few friends who are at tisch, one a freshman at atlantic(i think) and one a junior at adler. they have wonderful things to say about it. i have looked up many other schools, and i'm not swearing them off yet. i just think that tisch offers so many opportunities in regards to theatre and musical theatre. if i didn't get into cap21 my freshman year(this is if i get in at all)then i would feel comfortable knowing that i could audition to get in after my first two years at another studio. i am in my 6th year of vocal training, and have studied both legit and musical theatre/contemporary/rock styles. i have danced in the area of ballet for 12years, jazz for 3 years, and lyrical for 1 year. i also perform in local professional and community productions(as well as school ones)as well as performing as a soloist in different public venues. i am in no way trying to tell my life story, i just want to give a little background. i would feel weird talking about all this, if people didn't know where i was coming from. anyway, i know if i got accepted into any studio at tisch, i would definetely want to attend. the cost is a bit of an issue. i come from a single parent family, where my mom is already paying my brother's out of state tuition at psu($$$$$!) my dad isn't paying for my brothers college education(yet)because he thinks there won't be any left for me(long story). i know this is kind of broad, and i know that nyu isn't known for their financial aid, but can anyone give me an estimate of the avg. amount(or range) someone at nyu tisch might receive? and for info about scholarships there? i have an 3.8 gpa(on the 6 point scale:94-100=A) so i hope they would consider that fact. am taking at least 2 AP classes. national honor society, many service hours, i'm pretty sure i'll have good recommendations, i've done theatre related everything all my life, live and breathe it. does anyone know the highest amount anyone has gotten, and i guess the lowest as well? i just need SOME sort of idea how much i MIGHT be able to get IF i did get accepted there. whew. i'm just trying to be super proactive about all of this so i know what i'd be getting myself into if i do decide to apply ED. any any any info would be greatly appreciated. i just realized that if i do decide to apply ed, that would be sometime late this fall!!!AHHHH! no, actually it's really exciting! i just need some input from other people who have either gone through this, or know anything more about it. thank you!:)

Sarah - you sound like a great candidate for Tisch :D, but as has been said so many times before, things are super unpredictable.

My D has quite a few friends that receive some type of scholarship, but even these vary greatly, and can run anywhere from 5K (or lower) to even 20K. There is one boy in my D's class who received a huge city scholarship, and that combined with his 20K Tisch one takes care of his tuition. His is an extremely rare case however, and it even prompted people on this board to question that.

I would suggest that you also look into getting local scholarships where you live, perhaps the theatres you have performed with, your dance studios, local arts organizations, things like that. All that can add up. Most of them require essays and such, and it is nice to get that out of the way, so that you can concentrate on your college applications.

From an academic perspective it does not look like you have something to worry about, but it is that audition that is hard to predict the outcome of. Over the years, we have seen some talented kids get rejected. I know that my D, even though she really, really, really wanted to go to NYU, spent most of her time telling herself that getting into any BFA of her choice would be a great thing to avoid potential disappointment. For the record ,her GPA was no where close to yours, although she did take AP classes :), and she had a similar training & experience background.

Echoing what MTGrlsmom said above. Sarah, you sound like a very strong candidate for NYU/Tisch, both artistically and academically.

My D auditioned in the regular decision round because our family finances are such that we knew we could never pay full price for NYU, so we needed to see what NYU and others offered in the way of financial aid before my D (with our input) could decide where to attend college.

We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful scholarships/financial aid offered by all except one school to which she was admitted, and we were especially pleased because what NYU offered allowed her to actually go there. I won't lie: we still won't be going on any cruises or taking any trips to Europe while she is there, but we do still eat regularly and pay our BGE bill.

all great info! thanks everyone! i'm definetely looking into many local scholarships. if anyone knows anything about NFAA, and when they'll start allowing audition tapes to come in for next year, just let me know! i've heard really great things about it! also any other info about national or local(i live in the DC area if anyone else does!) scholarship/talent competitions that offer college money would be amazing! deciding if i want to apply ED is going to be a hard one. but tisch is definetely my top choice!
