Tisch freshman willing to answer questions

How active are students on campus?

Is there a lot to do on campus?

Does a lot goes on campus?

Does the students have a community connection due to NYU?

Pros and Cons of NYU location?

NOCCA. Hi. I will be applying to Tisch Recorded Music this fall. I was hoping if you could share any inside information you know about the program. Did you have any friends that went there? What did they think of it? From the website, it seems like they cater more to producer and executive entreprenuers. Is this true (I hope to enter as a critic-entreprenuer)? Anything special the admissions look for in an applicant? Do you know anything about the creative sample REMU applicants submit with their application? Thank you. Sorry for all the questions but I am so passionate about NYU.

Hi,

I'm applying to Tisch as an undergrad in dramatic writing. My english grades and scores have always been way above average, but my math stinks. My overall GPA is pretty good.

However, I had a ton of recs, and one of the full length plays I wrote has actually been produced at a professional theatre in Seattle, Washington.

Do you think I still ahve a shot at getting in, even if i'm not a math wiz?

I also have a TON of leadership, and go to a pretty well-known high shcool.

Thanks for any help, i'm pretty nervous.

JEAN009. I wouldn't worry too much about that. The fact that you wrote a play and it was professionally produced and performed pretty much covers up a not so good math grade in my opinion. The website says they weigh the portfolio 50/50 with your grades, but I know it's more like 60/40. If your portfolio is good and your grades are decent you should get it.

Hi, as others have also said, thanks for this thread, its great.

Do you think you could chance me for Tisch Film Early Decision for next year?

Also, if it helps, I'm female, and I heard that for Film, the male: female ratio is more like 70:30 with male students heavily outweighing the female...

I also have what I hope is a killer essay, and great recs from my Euro professor (who is also the head of history at UCLA), my film teacher, and english teacher. The film I'm submitting for my portfolio I've been told is great, and won an award last year at a film festival. What I'm most worried about is my GPA and my mom has managed to implant the idea that i don't have nearly enough extra currics. NYU has always been my dream school and I hope that applying ED helps me get in.

thank you!

how difficult is it to get into this Summer High School Program for Tisch? What can Make me stand out from the rest?

1) Can you tell me a little bit about the Experimental studio? I read up a little bit about it on the website, but I'm not entirely sure I understand. From what I can tell, each studio has their own signature technique, but I don't know what Experimental's is.

2) How many classes does a freshman drama major take towards their major?

Is there anyone willing to answer my previous post about the Global Liberal Studies program?

NOCCA, you've been mighty kind taking time (out of your busy life i'd assume) to answer these questions.

If you'd chance me for Steinhardt (Media/Comm)...

I'm currently completing my freshman year at another university, but i plan on applying to the Dramatic Writing program at NYU for fall 2009. I have a few questions though if anyone can help. 1) since my application will already have been submitted before my second semester grades are released, how much will my high school record weight in? 2) if there's anyone who's currently in the dw program or has already been accepted for the fall: did you include several excerpts from different screenplays/whatever in your portfolio or did you fill the entire 25 pages with one work? I'm also curious about the type/caliber of work that will get you accepted. The screenplay i think i'm going to submit isn't anything fancy....just a relatively simple story line with semi-witty dialogue. The concept is relatively fresh and unique. Its a comedy, though, which scares me a little because i'm not sure if that's what they're looking for. I'd really appreciate any input you guys could give me. Thanks!

I think this is the school for me, for acting
Female, Mexican
Sophmore, 3.50 GPA (aiming for 3.725-3.75 GPA by the end of junior year)
EC- Art Honors Society,
Honors 10th Grade English
AP USA History

As of having 1.5 of high school completed, what would you recommend? I am planning to have early decision in senior year.
I won't have any leading roles under my name by the time of early decision probably, but I will have two acting courses from my high school. And probably 5 total of AP classes. I am planning to join two more clubs next year.

You have any tips to make me stand out?

i need help with housing also

NOCCA thanks for this thread!! I’m freaking out a little as I am a transfer student and I am trying to get into Tisch (Acting) for Fall 2009.

Could you chance me? You seem to know the ropes.

I had a 3.87 GPA in high school (and we didn’t have weighted or whatever that was just my GPA) And my class rank was 12/350 although I don’t really know if that will matter much since Ive been in college for a while now. Got a 4 on AP Lit. Test
I’m a junior at my current college now and I have a 3.563 which I have maintained the whole time.
I have been on the Dean’s List since I’ve been in college. I’ve done quite a few extra curriculars since I’ve been in college, SGA (junior class VP), Drama Club (acted, and Dramatic Development Manager), various volunteer activities in community, prayer band leader, Im now an admissions counselor at my current college, um…I dont really want to include my SATs because they weren’t very good and I heard if you have more than 30 college credit hours, they don’t take them into account much (I hope!)

And about my audition, the first thing the guy said was “Oh Im so glad your doing ‘Rachel Corrie’” (Which was my monologue if you haven’t read the play) So it got off to a good start and he made me do it over four times differently. One of the times we were in mid-conversation and he told me to do it and after he said “See, that was YOU as Rachel” He asked me why I wanted to act and he seemed pretty impressed by my answer but I dunno. Also, he asked towards the end what part of my “instrument” I would want to work on first. He was writing stuff down so much that he made me nervous, but he was really great.

Anyways, it looks really good all typed out now, but it seems like everyone has a really good audition experience for Tisch and some of those people still don’t get in…I have been rejected from 3 audition schools now, and I REALLY want to get into Tisch.

Hi! I’m going to apply to tisch early decision this year, can someone tell me what my chances are?
GPA:3.6
SATs:1850 (will try to bring it up)
EC: was in photo and art club, did two sports, in math league
Portfolio: not the best cinematography, but definitely has a clear plot
Worked as director assistance, been on set of film shooting, went to sundance film festival(with film crew)
Will get good letters of recommendations
P.S: if I don’t get into tisch is there a good chance that I will be placed in LSP?
THank You!!!

Okay I know its been a while since this thread started but I cannot find the answer to this question!

-For the tisch summer high school program, does on letter of rec. HAVE to be from a counselor?

PLEASE HELP! my counselor hates talking to me! no joke!

I HAVE so many questions!

First of all, does tisch lay easy on grades?
Im still a sophomore in High School and I moved to some town in california from New York and I got a C in first semester english freshmen year. My school doesnt let me retake classes but i managed to get straight A’s next semester. My GPA is now a 3.67 and the NYU site says the average is a 3.6. I know i have 2 more years to bring it up but i was wondering how horrible that one C would be.

Also, have you attended the Summer High School Program?

many more questions to come if I get replies :)

Hey, do you still reply in this topic? :)

I’m applying to cinema studies. Do you happen to know if we’re supposed to submit our portfolios by mail, or on the internet? Can we mail them by the 1st, or does the college have to have them by the 1st?

Hi, I am looking to apply to NYU’s Tisch recording music school. I am very passionate at music and i can play the piano, and trombone. What should i do to have the best shot getting in??

Hi Nocca I’m applying next year to NYU’s Tisch Film program. And I’m kinda of freaking out! I have a really good portfolio and lot of recommendation and awards/honors. Also I’ve taken several AP exams and I have obtained a 5 in all of them. Although my GPA is a 3.5 but my SAT is a 2090. Do you think I have a change of getting into Tisch/NYU with that GPA?
