Has anyone attended the Tisch summer school for high school students? My high school junior is interested in the acting program abroad, either in Paris or Dublin. Reviews from participants would be so helpful as she tries to make her decision. Thanks!

My daughter attended the Summer Program for High School Students this past summer. She wasin teh Photography and Imaging program.
I can't say enough about it! She had a tremendous experience! The instruction she received was more than I expected on every level - we saw her talent, skill, and love for her art increase. The parent program at the end blew me away.
Tisch was expert at keeping the kids busy. They went to many galleries and museums. The guest speakers adn assignments were interesting and stretched my daughter to new places in photography. Of course, the city was full of activity - a Mets game, Broadway theater, Coney Island were just some of what they did.
My daughter made a comment after the first week: "Mom, all these kids are like me - they think like me. They take pictures of everything. I fit in here, Mom".

What more can I say? I only wish they had a PArt 2 for this summer. My dd is currently a junior and we are on the hunt to fill this coming summer with something that will continue the growth reveived from last summer. Gonna be hard to find something.
My dd is planning to apply for Ed next fall.

Good luck! I'll be glad to answer more specific questions.

PS - one thing I do remember is that admissions into the summer program is looking for passion rather than a lot of accomplishment. This should show in the essay.

My dd just attended the film and Television summer program and it was amazing but lots and lots of work. There school days started at 9am and ended about 10pm but some days they edited until 2am....She loved every minute of it.

Hi everyone, I have a related question (about Tisch summer programs) to ask... I hope that it's ok with the op!

I am going to apply to the program this year (soph in high school) for this coming summer (I would be a "rising junior"). This is the youngest you can be for this program, and I was wondering if it was worth it to apply. I know that they allow current sophmores and juniors (rising juniors and seniors) to apply, but from what I have found - the odds of getting accepted for a "rising-junior-position" are slim to none. Although young, I feel that I posses an emotional maturity unique for my age - which I plan to touch on in my essay.

Any input would be appreciated. (I really do not mean to thread-jack... I just don't want to clutter up the forum with extraneous threads!)

-Meg :)

megasinger, I'm just like you! I'm a sophomore this year and am applying to Tisch for the next summer[rising junior], and yes, they've said there's a smaller chance for us to get in, but I'm thinking that there's no harm in applying, and I know, like you, I have the emotional maturity that a program like Tisch needs. So I'd say just apply and see what happens(if you reapply next year, they may see that you were REALLY interested)

I've heard nothing but great things about the summer, and how life-changing and just how FUN it is!

gerardo, it is fantastic to see that there are other sophmores out there thinking as far ahead as I do!!! I've looked at the facebook groups for the different programs and have talked to kids who have done it, and it sounds like it lives up to every expectation!

If you don't mind me asking, are you applying to CAP21 as well; or another studio?

-meg :)

i'm applying to ETW, not CAP21[since I can't really sing or dance]. My teacher/director graduated from ETW, and he told me it was quite an experience[which i'm sure all their programs are :) ]

Yeah, I'm really into singing and acting... dancing is ok for me as well, so I'm applying to CAP. I'm actually working on my resume for the application now (even though the application isn't available until oct. 1 I believe) but I'm just working out what I want to put on it. I have an outline for my essay too... but I think I'm going to change it... I have no clue what they're looking for in these essays!!!

I was just wondering what should go into the resume Tisch wants. I'm guessing artistic, but is here anything else we should include besides shows/character/etc? Should it be like a professional resume?

Thanks in advance.

gerardo -- there are actually some resume samples on the Tisch admission website.

Along with your theatrical experience, you should definitely list your training (voice, acting, dancing, piano etc.), and make mention of any special skills (i.e. acrobatics) you may have.

Hi,
I was just wondering if one of you guys could post the exact URL for the Information on the Tisch website such as: Deadlines, Info on Expenses, and other Application information. I can't find the info for some reason, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I am interested in the Tisch CAP 21 summer program, and applying to the CAP 21 program for college. Thanks a lot!!

I'd just like to add that NYU is one of the only schools in the country that will take summer program attendance into account when you actually apply for college, so if you're thinking you'd eventually want to go to Tisch DEFINITELY do the summer program!

Word of caution here, plenty of people who are fortunate enough to be accepted into the summer program (rather competitive in itself), do NOT get accepted into the college.

Please do not think that because you attended the summer program and applied ED you will have a "free pass". Some very talented friends of my D who did the summer program, did not get in and were very upset as NYU was their first choice.

Is admission to the photography program hard/competitive?

I am very curious that does NYU Tisch Summer program for Photography and Imagery look at yout 9th grade GPA, cuz I have very low GPA for 9th grade but have GPA 3.5 for my 10th grade. And is it hard to get in to the summer program? And does it worth it?

I was accepted, and attended, the tisch summer program for photography and imaging last summer. I was accepted as a rising junior. at 15 i was definetly the youngest, but it was amazing and you should really consider applying! most inspirational month of my life! I hope i am accepted early at tisch next fall! its my first choice!

I may want to apply for this next year as a sophomore. I like the acting workshop in Dublin. Any experiences with it? Also, 10k is A LOT of money for a couple weeks. That could be a year of college. I know they have scholarships, but were not poor. I'm middle class, but there is no way we can afford to lay that money out. I know they offer scholarships, but it seems for people who are really poor and can't afford it. On the tax records it may see we can, but in reality we can't. Any suggestions?

If your family cannot afford it and you do not qualify for aid, you may wish to look into less expensive summer training programs. You also could get a job during the school year to help pay for a summer program.

I'm middle class so I'm not poor. But I can't afford any of these programs. Also, I don't think a bagger will pay much and I'm on the swim team.
