early_college....you need to talk to your parents. You may not be able to afford this program and so you have to find programs that fit into your family's budget. We are middle class but have sent our children to summer programs every year, and so it is something that families have to figure out as to how to allocate their finances. But if this is not possible, perhaps something that costs far less IS possible for you. As far as earning money, you may not be able to earn the entire summer tuition, but I was suggesting earning some of it which, if combined with the maximum amount your parents are willing to spend, may make a summer program doable for you. You are not going to find a summer program that is free. You may be able to do classes or community theater in the summer for a lot less, however.

You said you have an agent. Do you book work? If you earn money that way, save it up for a summer program. My D booked several jobs on stage when she was younger and saved up all of her earnings and had all her extra spending money for college for four years before she started college at age 16. My other daughter had significant extra spending money saved up for college from some jobs she held working in restaurants and in children's programs, and she was on three varsity sports teams, studied two instruments, was in band, jazz band, wind ensemble, student government, and took several weekly dance classes. If there is a will, there is a way to earn money. It may not be enough for a summer program but find out how much your parents are willing to spend and combine your earnings with that or else find a cheaper program.

I have done summer programs before, but there no more than 2 weeks. Those are the programs I could afford, lol. We vacation a lot so that's why it is hard to do it more than a couple weeks. We like to visit family, friends, etc. Also, I haven't got any auditions lately. It has been very slow as my agent stated. I guess I'll find something.

I applied for the summer high school film and television and now I’m just counting the days until I hear something, which should be soon!! Im so nervous!!! Did anyone else on here apply to the same program? And for those who already did the film and television tell more about it!

My D just heard she was accepted to Tisch CAP 21 summer program! She is SO excited, and, apart from being happy for her, I’m happy to know what she’s doing this summer so I can start making family plans… She is 90% sure she will go. I have read threads here, and maybe I missed something, but would like to know if this is a good “dry run” for going to Tisch/NYU, as I think that the experience will help her decide not only about NYU but also whether or not she wants to focus her application/audition on CAP 21. Thanks!

i have to disagree MT mom, i did it this past summer. i was in strasberg and there were only 16 people in my program. the whole program (ETW, Stasberg, Cap21) there were only 64 people. it is A ONE WAY TICKET in to tisch, i can pretty much testify to that. almost everyone who applied got in including myself (5 people did not). if youre grades are decent and your audition isnt terrible, youre in if you get into the summer program.

I just got an email telling me I am wait listed for Tisch Cap21. What do you think are the chances that I will be taken of the list and an opening occurs?

Jake6970- You mentioned you also go into the Steinhardt 3 week program. When did you find out for that? I also applied for it and am anxiously awaiting.

Seffie371- Which program are you wait listed for?

I found out a little over two weeks ago…I sent my video in in early february though so maybe that’s why I found out sooner. I assume people will get off the waitlist though. I’m sure a lot of people applied to more than one summer program in the hopes of getting into just one of them.

HSN - my D attended Tisch/CAP21’s summer program, and not only did she have a wonderful experience, and learned a ton (money well spent), but it was indeed a great dry run, not only for her, but also for her dad and I, who were a little on the fence about letting our D move across country, and live in NYC. It all worked out “how it was meant to be” for her, and she now happily attends NYU/Tisch/CAP21. :D.

I am sorry, but I will reiterate that applying & attending TSOA’s CAP21 summer program is NOT an automatic “in” when it comes to college applications. From my D’s program out of the 34 that attended that summer, 30 applied to Tisch, 17 were accepted (9 into CAP21). I cannot speak for Strassberg, nor ETW, because I don’t have those numbers. We have seen some very talented kids get disappointed over the years, including this year. I will say that the majority of these kids still wind up in other great BFA’s however.

Make sure your child keeps an open mind, no matter how difficult it might be.

Do they ever allow you to be in another studio such as ETW, Strasberg, or the study abroad programs if there are not enough people to attend? Does this ever happen?

ilovetheater- I was wait listed for CAP 21. I know people who have gotten off the wait list, so I hope it works out! I wonder when they will let us know…I am guessing in a few weeks? Do they let you know if you aren’t offered a spot off the wait list?

I was wondering who else out there got their acceptance to NYU-Cap21 for this summer? My D just got her email yesterday and would like to find others who are planning to go. Also, any ideas about good scholarships to apply for as a junior wanting money to help pay for summer study?

Congratulations to all who have received acceptance and good luck to those on wait list…I suspect there will be some who choose not to go due to finances, so keep positive. Half of the money ($4000+) has to be paid by April 24 for those accepted.

I got wait-listed for the theatre program…but it is better than nothing, I guess - its not a flat out no, right? Are the chances good for getting off the wait list?

Either way, I think I will get better results with an audition only program -
Does anyone know if CAP21’s audition program is still taking apps? And does anyone know of any other audition only pre college program?
