Tisch notifying early?

On the main NYU board, someone says they received their letter and email for Tisch Drama on the 18th. Does anyone know if Tisch ever notifies before March with their accepted students day invites?

I saw that post and it seems highly unusual. I can’t explain it or don’t know if any changes have been made this year.

In all other years, admissions decisions in the RD round come out close to April 1. Some students receive invitations to admitted student events and those invitations tend to come out in mid March (if you get one, you will be admitted April 1). I haven’t heard of students getting those invitations prior to mid March ever.

yeah, I got my decision really early for RD. But like I said, I think they sent it out to me so fast because of a scholarship deadline. Can’t say much else about it, though. My mom called and discussed FAFSA, the deadline for the scholarshipn admission with an Admissions Officer at NYU - this woman told her we will be getting official offers of acceptance, housing information, and other information concerning enrollment previous to or at latest April 1st.

Perhaps you could clarify if the scholarship you were seeking was an outside scholarship that required the admissions decision. I ask this because this would not be true for NYU’s own scholarships (my own kid got a scholarship at NYU/Tisch).

It’s through te New York Times. The admissions paragraph was very short and to the point, stating that I got accepted into Tisch and that they would be honored if I would join the NYU Class of 2014, and that my official letter of accpetance would be arriving soon. The following three paragraphs went into detail about the New York Times Scholars Program, whose deadline was February 22nd. Although not one of NYU’s own scholarships, I’m guessing they have some affiliation, as my NYU I.D. was listed on both the letter and the email. I’m also assuming this is an academic scholarship, as I’m really not too sure about its requirements or other things. Like I also said, mom talked to Jennifer Smith in the Admissions Department concerning the scholarship and my admission into Tisch on the whole, but mainly about FAFSA, and how both my Application to NYU and my FAFSA information had to be released to the New York Times in order to be considered. I was really surprised on this early acceptance as well because I was told I’d be notified on or around April 1st.

It is interesting that this scholarship makes you tell them which school you will be attending on the application this soon as so many colleges do not render decisions for another month. So, perhaps NYU made an exception to release your decision to allow you to apply for that scholarship.

Best of luck to you on the scholarship application and also congrats on your acceptance to Tisch.

I don’t really understand it at all because I didn’t apply for this scholarship - NYU set me up for it. But hey, I’m not complaining at all :-). Thank you so much!

Ah, I just read about this wonderful scholarship program through the NYTimes. I see you are saying you did not apply for the scholarship first. But perhaps when NYU read your application, they felt you fit the type of student that the NYTimes Scholarship is aiming at and maybe they nominated you for it. You sound like a promising student and I wish you well with this.

I think those reading this need to understand that others are not receiving admissions notifications at this time. This scholarship was only open to NYC residents and has specific criteria for selection.

Last year my d received her letter of admission to Tisch, including her invite to the Sat 4/1 special admitted student’s day on 3/12. The date has gone down as “history” for her, as NYU has always been her dream school
Well, one year later, I can attest that she is living her dream, deliriously happy, and as we say, everything happens for a reason.

Invited Student day for Tisch is the 10th of April this year. Just spoke to an admissions officer, as I am also an MLK scholar! =D

Any other Tisch RD drama applicants here anything yet?

No word. Haven’t heard from anybody else accept for CAS people and other scholarship winners.

Have any Tisch applicants received the invitation to accepted students day yet??? If so, when… and what does the letter look like…a regular sized envelope??

I’m an MLK scholar too! I might meet you Junior. I found out about my acceptance about a week ago, but I still don’t know what studio I have been in accepted into.

Saturday in the Square and the scholars weekend are not the same…right?

Hippietheatremom (love the username by the way), I haven’t heard of anyone getting the accepted students day invitation. The only people who have heard are MLK scholars or other things like that. I believe the ASD invitation is a postcard of sorts but someone (Soozie? ;)) can correct me if I’m wrong.

I don’t know what date the MLK Scholars event takes place (the kids who are selected for that could tell you the date). Perhaps it is on the same day as the accepted student event? But these are not the same “invitations.”

First of all, the Accepted Student Day event is no longer called “Saturday in the Square” as it used to be when my kid was invited/accepted. I think they changed the name of this event last year. The invitations tend to come out right around now each year (but I have not heard of anyone getting one yet this year). The event is on April 10.

Back when my D was accepted, the invitation was on a card that was inside an envelope…you know, like an invitation! This isn’t the admissions decision acceptance, which is in a big folder with lots of stuff in it (a “fat envelope”) that comes around April 1. I don’t know what the invitation looks like this year.

Back when my daughter got the invitation for Saturday in the Square (accepted student event), she ALSO got a separate letter telling her she was selected as a Tisch Scholar and that had its own invitation for a luncheon event on the SAME day as Saturday in the Square. AFTER we attended the accepted student event for Tisch, we then went to the Tisch Scholars event that same Saturday. This was a MUCH smaller gathering. However, Tisch Scholars is no longer in existence for incoming students. But perhaps MLK Scholars meets on the same day as the accepted student event? But these sorts of invitations are separate invitations.

The MLK scholars weekend is March 27-28.

^Thanks, Hannah for clarifying that. That explains why those invitations had to come out sooner than the Accepted Student Day event invitations, in order to allow time to make travel plans.
