TISCH/NYU BFA Acting Early Decision Question

I have such admiration for all of the knowledgeable and generous people on this site, and hope you can help me with this question.

My son, a high school junior, loves NYU and wants to apply early decision to Tisch for Acting.

We are a big NYU family-- his sister goes there, I got my MBA there, my father was a Founders' Day award professor there, he and my mom both graduated from there ( they actually met there right before WWII)-- so it may be in his blood.

His sister said in passing the other night, " well, Lady Gaga ( they had just gone to her concert in NYC) is like one of the only people ever to have gotten into Tisch early (decision). They like to see everyone they can, and don't make many early decisions. ( My D is at Gallatin not Tisch).

Does anyone have any info on this? Is he better off applying regular?

Thanks so much,

Laura, I can assure you that Lady Gaga is not “like one of the only people ever to have gotten into Tisch early (decision).” Each year, Tisch fills approximately 1/3 of its incoming freshman class with ED applicants.

As to whether or not your son is better off applying ED or RD, that really is up to you and to him. If he’s absolutely sure that the Tisch program is the best one for him, and he’s researched Tisch and all of the studios, in addition to other BFA programs, and comparing financial aid packages isn’t necessary for your family, then applying ED is a good idea. Make sure he does do the research, though, because the studios are quite different, and also the admissions odds for any BFA are slim. Best of luck to him!

I know lots of people who have gotten into NYU Tisch early decision. However, I don’t know Lady Gaga! :)

Thank you so much!
