I really would love to go to NYU. I would also really love to study film production in college.
Can I take film/photography classes without being enrolled in Tisch? I know that my chances of getting accepted to Tisch for filmmaking are extremely slim, but I guess not impossible. Should I apply to CAS so that my chances of getting into NYU are greater, or apply to Tisch and risk possibly not getting in at all? I'm assuming there's no way to be considered for both schools. How do I pick??
Thanks for any answers or suggestions!

Generally, you can’t take Tisch film classes as a non-Tisch student. However, Tisch does offer a few “Open Arts” courses that people from other schools can take, although I don’t think there are very many. Also, if you go to a Tisch class on the first day, the class isn’t full, and the professor is feeling nice, you might be able to get in. I’ve seen this happen once or twice, but I wouldn’t count on it.

The other option is to do an internal transfer from CAS to Tisch after either your freshman or sophomore year. You can spend your first few years crewing on Tisch films and gain experience.

If your heart really is in film, you should apply to Tisch. I don’t think it’s as hard to get into as people say it is.
