Tisch or Gallatin

I want to be a Film/TV major, but I do like the idea of crafting my own curriculum and taking classes from other disciplines that interest me. But mainly, I want to take classes in the Film/TV major. Would you guys suggest I apply to Tisch or Gallatin? Is Gallatin akin to an easier way of getting into the major of your choice? And to what extent do you actually craft your own curriculum at Gallatin?

no. Gallatin is not the easier way of getting into the major of your choice. there IS a Gallatin core you have to fulfill, and you have to do something that’s like a thesis defense before you graduate called a colloquium.

But could someone get into Gallatin, fulfill the Gallatin core, and still pretty much major in whatever major they want? Or not?

it depends on the major. i don’t know how Film/TV works, but i assume that it’s an intensive program and that there are a lot of classes to fulfill. if you are passionate about film, there’s absolutely no reason to go to Gallatin because the Tisch program and just the Tisch NAME will get you far.

There’s a ton of Tisch classes that Gallatin students can’t take, which includes all the main classes in every major. If you major in Film through Gallatin, you will get a theoretical education rather than a practical one, since you won’t be eligible for the core Tisch Film classes. I know a guy who wants to do drama in Gallatin but he can’t actually get acting training like Drama majors do since he isn’t in Tisch.

And MAP is right, Tisch is a much more recognized name than Gallatin in the film industry.

Oh, okay! Thanks, guys! That makes my decision a lot clearer. I definitely will apply to Tisch. Gallatin does sound very interesting though. :)
