So I was recently accepted as an internal transfer into the Film/TV program. Being an internal tranfer, I got shafted in terms of teachers. So I was wondering if I could get any feedback (aside from that which I could/could not gather from ratemyprofessors.com) about the following teachers? Any input would be appreciated:
1) James Brown for Sight & Sound: Documentary
Anthony Artis for Tech Theory Doc
2) Selma Thompson for Intro to Dramatic/Visual Writing I (I wanted Paul Thompson, but I don't know if it's worth it to put myself on a waitlist for a FRIDAY class??)
3) Ilya Skorupsky for a Design/Animation introductory course (I needed a craft class and this was all that was available... should I take something else/is this class very difficult?)
4) Children's TV-- who is this generally taught by? There is no name listed on my schedule for it.

Again, ANY input whatsoever (be it an anecdote, or any random gossip) would be helpful. Thanks!

1) artis is funny. brown I’ve heard can be a bit egotistical,
2) no opinion
3) this course is really only beneficial if you are majoring in animation and if you aren’t, it will be frustrating. I would drop it and either pick up a second history and crit (they aren’t hard) or pick another craft. But if you are majoring in animation, it’s a great course. Try putting yourself on the waitlist for a craft course with 3 or 4 and sign up for a crit class. Go to the waitlisted craft in the fall and you’ll probably get in
4) great class. usually taught by lynne mcveigh. she’s awesome.

Wow thanks. There don’t seem to be too many hist/crit or craft classes open at this point, but I can go on the waitlist for Producing for TV (craft) or TV Programming and Concepts (hist/crit). Which would you recommend?
Are the H/C really not bad? That’s actually kind of a relief, because I was getting worried about it.

TV Programming and Concepts is the bomb. I took it in the fall and the professor is great. Really laidback, candid, occasional guests. At least one class (probably the last one) will be at HBO. Made me love tv stuff. Just get the paperwork for that and walk in to class. As long as there is a seat for you he will let you in. He loves it when people want to be in his class.

Generally, H/C aren’t bad at all. and TV Programming definitely isn’t. It’s really easy but still informative. Actually it’s almost too easy (only a simple midterm and final paper) but you learn so much.

I’ve heard good things about Producing for TV but I haven’t taken it.
