Hi! I was just accepted to Tisch for Reg. Decision and I was wondering if we will be placed in studios and get studio notifications when our big envelopes come in late march or april.

No, the wonderful fat envelope will say only that you are accepted to Tisch drama and will contain your financial aid offer, if any. Several weeks after that, you will get your studio assignment. I remember that last year, my D got an email saying she was assigned to CAP21. Congratulations on being accepted: it's a fabulous school! Sorry you have to wait so long for all the pieces of the puzzle, but that's the way they do it.

anticipation16 What area of the country do you live in?

Wow ... several weeks until we find out our studio assignments? More Waiting?
Oh well, I'm so happy to get into Tisch that it doesn't matter too much.

Yeah, I sympathize! My D almost jumped out of her skin with happiness when she got the invitation to the student event but then bit her nails to the quick (figuratively!) waiting for the big acceptance package (because she knew the financial aid offer was a make-or-break aspect for us) and then had the nervous nellies again until she heard she got into CAP21. Believe it or not, the time will pass and your good news will be delivered! Congrats!!

Yay! Thank you for the inspirational words, NotMamaRose!

Will we find out studios before the May 1st deadline?

Yes, as I recall, my D found out she was in CAP21 a day or so before the admitted students' event, so she was able to go into that wonderful day knowing she got her first choice. (To be honest, had she not gotten CAP, she wouldn't have gone to NYU because she really wanted to do MT and was admitted to other schools' MT programs, though NYU/Tisch/CAP21 was her first choice out of all of those.)

Hang in there and try to enjoy that YOU'RE IN! Tisch is just a fabulous school for the right student and being in New York is just great if you are a city kid.

My S just found out he was admitted through the students' event notice. He has done all the work on his own so I am pretty much in the dark. Could someone please tell me what CAP21 is?

Congratulations to your son!! Did it say on the notice you received cap21? That's unusual because other people's have said that they are invited to admitted students day but they aren't sure beacause it didn't say which studio they were placed in at Tisch.

Also, which state do you live in? And, when did you get your acceptance letter?

I think what laidbackmom meant was that her son only found out that he was admitted to NYU through that invite letter; he just auditioned to NYU for CAP21 and is still waiting to hear whether or not that is the studio he is placed in. No one found out studio placements yet, except those who have applied early.

Laidbackmom: I do not know much about CAP21 because I did not apply as a musical theatre major, but here is the website and I think it gives pretty detailed info...at least enough to satiate any questions you may have until you and your son visit during the admitted students Saturday event. (CAP21)

laidbackmom, CAP 21 stands for Collaborative Arts Project and the 21 stands for the 21st century. It's a musical theatre concentrated studio at NYU/Tisch. There are several other studios for Drama that concentrate on the same and other things.

I auditioned for Tisch as well and I'm just wondering as to how you found out you were accepted? Is this student event notice through the mail? I thought no one would be notified until around April 1st?

Thanks for the Help!

Wheresmyvoice, in the mail over the past couple of days, NYU students that applied to the school have been receiving letters that invite them to New York along with other admitted students. So, in a way, receiving that invitation means that you have been accepted to NYU. Not receiving that invitation does not necessarily mean you have been rejected. There will certainly be many accepted students who did not receive an invitation being notified of their acceptance around April 1st. In fact, the students who did get invitations/likely letters will still receive an acceptance package by April 1st. So hang in there.

Yes, again, not every student who will be accepted to NYU Tisch drama will get the invitation to the accepted student event. Not getting one doesn't mean you are not in. But getting one means you ARE IN! If CAP21 was your first choice but you said you would accept another studio, then you have to wait until a few weeks after your letter arrives in early April to find out what studio you are in.

Does anyone know if most people who put cap21 as their first choice got into cap, or does Tisch accept a lot of musical theater people but put them into acting studios.
Also, is there like...an appeals process is someone doesn't get the studio of their choice?

clay, in past years, anywhere between 1000-1500 of the 2000-2500 who audition for Tisch put CAP21 as their first choice studio, so no, obviously most do not get into CAP21. Most do not get into Tisch at all. CAP21 usually accepts about 80 in order to enroll a class of about 63. Many who audition for CAP21 will indicate that they'd be willing to accept another studio, and yes, some of these are placed in other studios. Some accept the offer and some don't. I'm not sure that the exact numbers for each of these scenarios are ever made public. In all the years I've been around, I've never seen specific numbers. No, I've never heard of any appeals process.

This is good information to know. Do we know, out of the 1000-1500 who auditioned for CAP21, how many are offered acceptances to NYU?

+Thanks Clairetine…your CAP21 explanation was what I was looking for. My S has yet to receive his studio placement. Has anyone yet?

Thanks for your lead.
