Hi. I was wondering if it's worth it/advisable to assign a title for the personal essay I write for the Common Application? Do college admissions even look at the title?

Can someone please answer my question?

i dont understand why no one has responded to this thread.

Titles can be cute and attention-grabbing. So, yes, if you think of one that doesn’t sound bland – e.g., “How Scoring the Winning Goal Made Me into a Leader” – by all means include it.

It’s quite normal to have a good title. Not required but definitely a high percentage of essays have titles.

anyone know if you underline, quote, or etc the title for the personal essay?

guys, dont be so worried. You can format your personal essay anyway you see fit. There are no rules, no required bolds and underlines that have to be stuck to. At the end of the day, I think formatting it your way would show how you operate…

As for the title, yeah… I think its a good idea to put it on… I’m doing it…
but i disagree with ‘photographer’. dont let it be like a summary of the essay, that’ll give your essay’s charm away before they dive in. There’ll be no suspense that way, cuz hey, they know the winning goal’s coming. I’d call it something cool like ‘Turf diaries’ or something if it was a football essay, cuz that would get your reader’s attention, and it’ll make it memorable, so when they’re going through essays, they’ll have a cool name in their mind that they refer to it through… So, get a good title, it’ll go in ur favor big time…

You misunderstand photographer’s comment. You are basically saying the same thing he said.

Anyway; yes, I think it is good to include an attention grabbing title.

My example was of what NOT to do for a title.

Mine was a pun that related to the story.
