TO ALL BUDDING GRAMMAR AFICIONADOS

I have three questions for you guys. I hope you can help.

1st Question:

“I don't know how to go about this" John said

“Did you go to class John?" I said [Do I need the I said?? or is it obvious it is me???]

“No- but our teacher is so bad" John said [Do I need the John said here or is it obvious John is speaking?]

2nd Question:

Also, does dialogue that is in quotation marks need to be grammatically correct like: "We just got back from school, where have you been?"

I have deliberately made a comma splice in the dialogue but is that okay because it is in quotation marks?

3rd Question:

If I am referencing a book I have in a bunch of description does the book name need to be in single quotation marks. This is what I have written:

Equipped with 'The Fault in Our Stars' and 'How to Lose Friends & Alienate people', I knew I was on track to becoming a loner.

Do I need the single quotation marks or not?

If anyone can get back to me ASAP that would be great

Many thanks

1st Question: For the second sentence you need to include the “I said.” As for the third sentence, you don’t need to include the “John said.”

During any dialogue in writing, the first time a speaker says something must be identified with “said.” For the second time, it’s optional (I believe. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.), and for the third time you definitely don’t need it.

2nd Question: Dialogue must follow the conventional rules of grammar even inside quotation marks.

3rd Question: Titles of work must be in either italic script or in quotation marks.

I’m also not quite sure how this pertains to the SAT.

In relation to the third question so what I’ve got is okay or do you mean the quotation marks need to be like “xyz” and not ‘xyz’. Ps: all dialogue in the essay I’m writing is in the “xyz” form if that is important.

But thanks and yea not really sat related but I know there are a lot of grammar connoisseurs on here hence my post

Cheers
