To all Cornell haters

On other threads on CC I noticed that Cornell is constantly bashed, and I just wanted to clear this up for future applicants/h8er's. Correct me if I am wrong or if you want to debate anything I said. I am open to reason :D

I often hear "Cornell is the easiest ivy to get into." Well Cornell's acceptance rate this year was what 19%? Penn's was 16%. Laa-dee-da a 3% difference. It really isn't a big difference. Also larger schools tend to accept more people since they have more seats available, hence a higher acceptance rate.

I also hear that "Cornell's has a few state schools, might as well be SUNY Ithaca." Well first off, these schools are state funded not SUNY state schools. This is good since we get more $$$$ for research. Also, just because they are state funded does not mean they are bad! CALS, Humec, and ILR are amazing schools that often rank in the top in the nation. They have unique majors not available anywhere else (CALS even has winemaking :D) to give opportunities to learn

I also hear "Cornell students suicide like crazy." Not true. The suicide to people ratio is AVERAGE. There are a lot of people at cornell and according to statistics some(unfortunately :'( ) suicide in this population

"Cornell is in the middle of nowhere, Ithaca is boring." Ithaca is an amazing town. It is freaking gorgeous and the campus is unique. Plus there is a TON of fun stuff to do in collegetown.

Ok now that that is settled, here are some reason's why Cornell is freaking amazing.
1.) we have 3 secret societies, how cool is that???
2.) we have the A+ system, meaning it is possible to get a 4.3
3.) Ivy league status (although it is an athletic conference, it still commands respect!)
4.) Will catch anyones eye on a resume
5.) any person, any study really is true
6.) free t-shirts to freshman
7.) we own at hockey
8.) 44 frats, nuff said
9.) 5 hours from nyc by drive

feel free to add more

just tired of people waving their d1cks around and trying to boost their ego. Cornell isan amazing school and I love it. GO BIG RED!

The Cornell hating is simple. People can’t appreciate what they don’t understand.

The people who hate cornell tend to be overzealous highschoolers. No one in the real world looks down on cornell grads (actually even the thought of this makes me giggle).

when I read number 3, I actually thought you meant the Ivy League sports at first. I think it’s really cool how we have excellent D1 athletes but they are still forced to be students and are not ridiculously pampered.

touting the free t-shirts makes me think you’re like offering a gift pack at a radio station or something…I don’t really think that’s enhanced my life all that much relative to, say, working in a lab year round, or talking with my often fascinating classmates.

I don’t perceive much Cornell hate, or even dislike or snobbery or anything. being from upstate NY, most people I know either say really positive things about Ithaca in general or say “nice, that’s a really good school” of Cornell in particular.

Cornell stinks… makes me stay up all night studying for exams…

But seriously, I don’t think “44 frats” or “5 hours from NYC” are good things. 5 hours is still kinda far and consider quality vs. quantity.

I don’t really feel like we get bashed either except by the occasional ■■■■■. I’m really glad I chose to go to school here. Freshman year was fun and the people here are amazing.

Jeez, it’s bad enough when some dimwit starts a rant about Cornell, why would a Cornellian feel like he or she has to provide a preemptive defense of the school?

I mean, Castiel, I appreciate the effort, but it is really not necessary.

Cornell is rated as one of the top 20 universities in the country, and one of the top 15 research universities in the world.

Some pimpled faced high school dweeb who can’t get laid so they post provactive threads to sublimate their frustrated sexual urges ain’t going change that.

So can we all agree that Cornell is an elite institution of higher learning, and move on?

just wanted to put this so other people who are considering multiple colleges and check multiple forums will know the truth.

On the penn bored cornell is made to look like a cc when it isn’t. especially muerteapablo coming around and telling everyone cornell in essence sucks

exhibit A

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/926699-upenn-econ-vs-cornell-econ-international-prestige.html</a></p>

All of us CC regulars have learned to ignore muerteapablo. She is a former Cornell student who transferred to Penn and holds one heck of a grudge against Cornell.

^ why?? Cornell is a great school? although i still feel the sting of rejection, i still love the place…kinda weird that anyone could have that much of a grudge :s

I especially hate the elitist attitude inherent in the position that Cornell is an “inferior” Ivy because it has state-funded schools. There’s nothing wrong with state schools, first off - they open up the door to higher education for millions of people.

Anyway, haters will hate.

i always thought ivy leaguers are too serious people to engage themselves in a petty dispute as to which school is better, but hey i guess i was wrong. there r too many ccers doing that.

you don’t see every ivy leaguer doing that, now do you?

so representative sample? I think not. Muerteapablo and the rest of “her” gang are nutjobs, not the norm.

That list doesn’t help much; it’s filled with superficial qualities about the school. No one is going to consider a free t-shirt, something very common at other universities, as an incentive to go here. The greek life, while it may attract some, doesn’t help the academic defense you are trying to make.

The issue people have with Cornell is not what subjects or what kind of school it is–that’s just regurgitated nonsense perpetuated by closed-minded academics who believe only the traditional academic subjects should be pursued–it’s the rankings. Reasoning with ranking whores in terms of anything but rankings is pointless. And this topic is moot.

its not the rankings, brown is number 16 and it doesnt seem to get any trash talk

Don’t worry about it Castiel…Cornells’ reputation speaks for itself everytime one of the newly minted grads applies for a job and the depth and breathe of their education, ECs, and experiences shout out even though Cornellians are the most humble of all.

When you are great you don’t need to tell people about it…everyone knows.

Castiel, I posted this link in the thread that made you upset, and I will post it again. Who in there right mind can question the 15th ranked university in the WORLD? Cornell rocks!

[World’s Best Universities: Top 400 - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/worlds-best-universities/2010/02/25/worlds-best-universities-top-400.html)

haha i wasnt upset, but yes I agree!

I finally realized I should just let people hate on Cornell all they want. Let them flex their e-phalluses and feel better about their school, while I enjoy mine here. Half the time it’s just people who need something to bash in order to make themselves feel more important anyway.

Why I don’t care:

Because every educated person I’ve talked to has been EXTREMELY impressed that I go to Cornell. That’s way more than enough for me to totally disregard stupid and na

^couldn’t agree more. Just want other cc cornell hopefulls to not be deterred from cornell.
