To all current first-years: Thoughts? Regrets? Advice

Hey everyone,

It's been almost exactly a year since I've perused this sight in hopes of finding my way to college. Now that I'm back, I'd like to say to all who are also here: What do you think of UCI so far?

For me, I love it here. I am lucky coming to this school knowing a lot of people (some I've known since kindergarten and are reuniting after 8th grade). The weather is always nice, rain is regarded as a freak occurance, the wind blows hot (??) (santa ana's, I know), people are supportive and everything is accessable by means of bus.

Regrets? Eh, maybe not joining all the clubs that I wanted to. But I love the ones I'm in now - UCI choir and Quiz Bowl (we play against Stanford, Berkeley, USC, UCLA...) Shameless plugs!

Advice? Don't be phazed by the ginormous lines at Starbucks. Talk to your counselor early about course of classes for your major. And when you're overwhelmed as a bio major, don't worry, everyone else is, too. Make friends with people in your classes, because then you make study groups. JOIN CLUBS!! Even if the club sucks, at least you've networked with other people.

LEARN HOW TO TAKE THE BUS!! ITS FREE AND YOU CAN GO AS FAR NORTH AS LONG BEACH AND AS FAR SOUTH AS LAGUNA BEACH AND SAN CLEMENTE.

The beach is 15, 20 min away with the shuttle ASUCI is offering. Take advantage!!

Anyone else have advice?

I'm glad you're enjoying your experience here at UCI. I'm sure you now understand what people mean when they say "college is what you make of it."
