To all Intl students...APPLY!!

Hi people!!

I am an international student, Im entering college this fall, and if I MADE IT, you will too!!, I got into an Ivy (some others) and needless to say IM UBER EXCITED.

Don't give up, am I a genious? No I am not, am I an over achiever? No I am certainly not, Am I lucky? HELL YES!, If you dont apply and try, you will never know!
I did it out of curiosity and look at me now!

Don't give up! I have a friend who got in with a 1500 SAT score!!!( yes yes, out of 2400) I have another friend who got in with a 2300 something score and a 8.4 gpa (out of 10) Dont give up, seriously, never do! You dont have to be a genious to get into an ivy or anywhere else. Im young, Ive been stupid and will keep on being one lol, Ive been drunk, Ive dated, Ive crashed cars, Ive travelled, Ive been a fool, Ive been in fights, etc etc...still, didnt stop me from doing it and getting in. Live your life! enjoy it, be a normal teenager/young adult, do what you feel like without thinking about the future and enjoy your life. After all, whats meant to be is going to be :)

Im super excited!

In case you are wondering, my stats are regular, nothing stellar. GPA 9.0, SAT 2100, extra curricular activities: nothing special, travelling, sports, etc... Essay: I think a really good one, that talked about being a regular kid, doing regular stuff and still be happy. Dont give up guys :)

really?? 1500 out of 2400 where is he going to??

She got into Colby Sawyer and other I cant remember the name and into Macalester, she is attending Macalester.

Congrats! Where are you off too? And which country are you from? :)

Thank you!!
Im from Mexico and attending Brown :)

That’s awesome! Have a great time there, I’m sure you’ll fit in great. I can feel the enthusiasm from your post :)

Thanks!! I am super excited! Seriously I didnt think I could get in ANYWHERE! seriously, I still cant believe it!

The downside is that I feel weird at times, I feel like perhaps I wont fit in because Ive never been an A student Im more like a B student and by chance Im not a book worm or anything like that, in fact I hate reading, though I know I will have to read a lot lol, Ill try my best.

Out of curiosity, roughly how much financial aid did you and your friends apply for?

Quite an inspiring post !

Hi guys, I have to pay 8,700 a year, I applied for more though, the one going to Macalester is paying half of tuition+room and board+insurance, dont know the exact amount but I remember its half, She applied for way more though but Im sure her stats didnt help. Two other friends got into Univ of Texas and U of Delaware without any finaid (good stats though), I have another friend going to MHC she is paying around 10,000 per year, a guy with not so bad stats but either good is going to Vassar but he is paying like 20 000 something per year, Its possible guys, don’t give up :)

Can you share with us some ideas about your essay? How many ECAs that you have?
Some tips for international applicants?

What major are you planning to pursue at Brown?

Did you apply early decision?

You got into an Ivy despite not knowing how to spell genius or use apostrophes. Really?

well, your post made me optimistic for a while but not long enough.
Internationals needing heavy aid are in biggest disarray amongst all the applicants. I am one of them.
No matter what, but nothing, except getting accepted into a college can make me feel secure because I know how crapshoot admission already is, more so for an international student and more so for an international student like me who:

can pay nothing ( income <$4000
is a returning (non-traditional) student
isn’t a freaking genius because I ain’t have 2300+ SAT , olympiads or Nobel Prize

more I read a " chance me’’ thread in a forum, more I feel like ****** … they have supersats, super-duper ECs… etc…

Now, dare to advice me something…

Hi!
@weathergirl: My essay was about my life, being a regular student and human being, I concluded with a lesson I learned. Some of my ECAs are, basketball team captain (sports club), volleyball team captain (school), Tae Kwon Do regional medallist (silver), a summer volunteering building houses (school program), Interior Decoration apprentice for 2 years, designed some ads for my school (10’s summer camp and tournament) and travelling :)

I am no one to give tips, Im just a lucky sheep lol, seriously, the only advise I have is DONT GIVE UP, just apply! At first I wasn’t going to, my stats and academic life are far from being stellar, BBUT one day I said “Hell why not!” the worst that could happen is getting rejected, I wasnt in anyway, so there was nothing to lose. I also applied to some universities here in my country and I was deciding which one is closer and better lol, when suddenly BAYOM! rejection and acceptance letters and emails…I am still in shock lol I can’t believe it. Never give up, especially without trying lol :)

@DarthSpawnus; they call it “concetration” and Im interested in Theatre Arts and Political Science. I would like to pursue a career in film.

@GYKhasin: No I didnt

@InVeritas: see my point? lol seriously Im still in shock!

@Specific: You are giving up! C’mon man! You will never know unless you try. Stop reading the Chance me posts! The people “chancing” are students who are also posting their stats and asking to be chanced (or whatever the proper expression is lol) Overachievers or strict people will everyone that they suck, and low grade students will keep on telling WOW your stats are amazing you are in …o_0 they aren’t adcoms or anything like that. Like you said this whole admission thing is a crapshoot. There might be a trend for accepted students and that, but nothing rules out an applicant. For gods sake a friend with a 1500 sat score got in! lol.
Apply to schools that offer Need Based Financial Aid :), fyi the older sister of a friend who is also a non-traditional student (3-4gap years) got in at a womens school with financial aid :)

@alfatea
Dude you got some impressive stuffs to list out as your ECs, especially that interior decoration and Tae kwon do thing. May be I lack in that area.

Btw,which country are you from? and which Ivy did you get into? you studying there or somewhere else?

Thank you for that inspiring advice anyway.

Hey specific, thanks but to be honest aren’t that impressive, is just the way you put it down, KWIM? I am from Mexico and Im a Brownie now lol.

Thnx for your words . Iam international applying to Cornell (( my dream since ever )) .
My problem is that iam in a country with the WORST education system EVER . Started my SAT with 1440 and now i’m stuck at 1900 :frowning:
My problem is English , thank god i speak it well enough (( just because of reading , not school )) , the students at my school don’t know what " how are you " means :(

I hope i get in .

Anyway thnx again , and congratulations on becoming a Brownie :d

Wow, congrats… I’m a bit encouraged by your post, but your extra curriculars are amazing! (in my opinion) I have nothing close to that - horrible at sports, and never realised how important ECs were until junior year - AND I’m not incredibly smart, either, haha
