To all Penn and Michigan Applicants

I know its late to be starting my app. for michigan, but i got a couple questions.

Is preferred admissions binding (not to Michigan itself, but lets say i get in preferred to their business school, then do I have to attend there business school or could I transfer my freshman year)

My 500 word essay is about 650 words. Are they like Penn whos pretty cool about it if it is a good essay, or are they going to get ****ed if its that long?

Some schools allow you to send in the Jan. 28 SAT scores even if the scores will be reported after the app. deadline, does Michigan?

Thanks. And sorry for asking this on the Penn site. Im not sure who else to ask, the admissions office is closed.

I applied ED to Wharton (Deferred) I also haven't sent out my Michigan app yet and I'm OOS. I'm writing the bazillion essays right now. Prefer admit to Ross.

From what I know, preferred admissions isn't binding, its not like we had to sign a paper or anything, I'm pretty sure if you get accepted pre admit, you attend freshman year, if you don't get in pre admit, then you reapply end of freshman year.

My essay is 900, I don't think they much care as long as you aren't rambling

3.Michigan will accept the scores, thats what admissions told me.

Good luck

nice. Im in the same boat as you. defered Wharton and about to send in Michigan and UNC. What other scools are you applying to.

Carnegie Mellon
Babson
NYU-Stern
Cornell
Dartmouth
UMiami

I think that right now is really late to be applying to Michigan.

Ross is probably my first choice school (I love Michigan and the in-state tuition), and I think that I probably missed the boat by applying October 23. (People have already been offered admission to Ross)

Ya, its late, but who knows what can happen

yea, i mean its still a month before the deadline. Plus, im out of state so hopefully they havent filled their "quota" for my state.

What about this Residencial College thing?

Don't bother with it. From what I've heard, most of the people that do it are the ones afraid of Michigan's size.

it's also extremely humanities-based. You have to take extra humanities courses and such. I originally put it down in my application, but I'm not going to opt for it even if I go to Mich.

out of curiosity why is this in the Penn forum?

because the michigan forum is always sleepy (i assume), so they took this coversation to the livelier penn forum, which has a lot of umich applicants b/c of the whole business thing
