I got waitlisted to CIT. Post your stats and stuff I guess. And also, I'm curious: how many people get off the waitlist typically? And do they waitlist that many people?

SAT Superscore

CR 700 M 800 Writing 700

EC: Pretty good but it lacks some science stuff such as Science Olympiad.
Recs: I’m not sure… but pretty good

Hm… now what ?

On Usnews they say:
Number of applicants placed on a waiting list: 3,139
Number of students on the wait list accepted: 320

waitlisted as well. yay. does anyone know if the waitlist is ranked?

Oh, I forgot to post mine but I guess I will now:

**At a glance, anyone know the reason why I might’ve been waitlisted. I’m just REALLY REALLY nervous now because I got rejected at MIT and now I only have Rice and Columbia left otherwise it’s safeties for me.

@JDong217 - I was also waitlisted CIT, rejected SCS :(

Honestly, your marks look very good, I don’t see why you wouldn’t get in…very surprised to see you waitlisted.

My SAT is a good ~200 points less than yours overall.

Perhaps the only thing I can’t judge about your app is essays - but even if those were just so-so, I still think you should have gotten in.

If people like you are the ones who make the waitlist, I’m surprised I’m on it at all, to be honest with you.

Waitlisted MCS

3.8 UW Gpa

740/710/720

740 Bio M
710 Math 2

Top 2% of my class

Meh. CMU is way out of my price range anyway. Couldn’t have gone even if I was accepted.

Waitlisted:
34 ACT
760 USH, 710 Math II, 690 Chem
3.87 7/572 rank
Excellent Recs.
Good if not excellent essays.

I’m ticked. I got waitlisted at WuSTL, NU, and Emory. I don’t get it…I got into Berkeley and UCLA.

@An0nmity are you waitlisted to SCS or CIT?

Once again, I feel that you should have gotten into CIT…they must have had a record number of applicants or something this year…

I was waitlisted for SCS. I kinda just sent in my app because my fee waiver was already sent and it wasn’t much more work to finish it, so I don’t feel surprised at all. I just used the essays that were successful for me to Stanford. I don’t think they fit in with my CMU app. I was accepted to CIT, but this definitely sealed my fate of not going to CMU. So hopefully when I reject my admission to CIT, it’ll open a spot for someone else :)

Anyways, here are my stats (low, I know)

* SAT I (breakdown): 2010 (690 CR, 670 M, 650 W)
- SAT II: 710 Math II, 630 US History, 630 Chemistry
- Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
- Weighted GPA: 100.25 (we only use a 100 pt scale)
- Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 2/72
- 3x state champion in computer science. Debate State Octafinalist.

My stats are in post #41. Sparknotes version: H&SS/3.3 GPA/2090 SAT.

Information about waitlist ranking: [The Waiting List - Jaycie Galbraith](http://www.enrollment.cmu.edu/admission/blogs/jaycieg/2009/04/the-waiting-list.html)

I read somewhere else that if you only applied to one college within CMU then you’re placed on the priority waitlist and you have a 50% chance of being offered admission.

So, we better send an update of your stats and your interest in Carnegie right now so that when they pull our app again to fill up spots the committee will see the updated list :P

@JDong217, I cannot believe you were waitlisted. Your stats are amazing. If I were you, I wouldn’t worry. I feel like you will definitely get into Rice, and judging only by your stats and ECs I think you’re a good fit for Columbia. Good Luck.

And about the priority waitlist. Why is that? Why does it matter that I applied to 2 schools?

Eh, I don’t know, I’m starting to think it was the ECs that did me in - lack of science ECs. Maybe the essays too but I didn’t think they were terrible. Thanks for the wishes though

And as far as I know, the priority waitlist is for applicants who only applied to one school. I don’t know if everyone who applied to one school gets on it or only a select number get on it, but I think it’s probably the latter

This was on their facebook page: “All students who receive a wait list letter and weren’t admitted to any other their other college choices are given the option of choosing whether to be on the Regular Wait List or the Priority Wait List.”

a little hope to those who were waitlisted for only one of their schools like me. waitlisted for IS; rejected from all other schools

hey! i got waitlisted as well. i kind of expected it. my stats weren’t amazing. im glad i actually got a chance to be waitlisted.

Anyway, so now what do we have to do to increase our chances? And how do I even show that I WANT TO BE on the waitlist.

Also, i screwed up my SATS scores. i sent in the lousier one. Im not sure whether it makes much of a difference. From a 1990 to 2050. Do you guys think I should call to tell them about it?

meiyun personally i wouldn’t see the harm in that, but who am i to have an opinion!

i also got waitlisted with a 1950 SAT and a 30 ACT… i guess i just had some stellar extracurriculars and some crackerjack essays. Compared to some of you guys my scores look like i took the wrong test! when was the easy one!?

My kid got waitlisted with a 2360 SAT (800CR/770M/790W) and a 92 UW average and 12 AP courses…

Kind of a shock because RPI accepted him with a good financial package (meets full need with only Stafford loans).

megmno, I’m in the same situation for the most part (well, it’s me, not my kid haha but yeah). Got into RPI with $25k per year and I was expecting, for the most part, to get into CMU. I know it’s totally not all about the stats but I think my application was pretty strong overall.
