To any current students:

Hi there,
I'm looking to apply to the Honors program at U of Washington and would love to know what your experiences have been like in either the honors program or just the regular college. What's special at U of W, etc. I love the city and the school was gorgeous (I didn't get a chance to take a tour but I did wander through), but am interested in hearing about the goings-on and nuances of the school.

Thank you!

Honors Program = huge waste of time

Departmental Honors > Honors Core

sheesh.
if you want a more, uh, comprehensive response, use the search button. There’s been a zillion threads.
But, in short, unless you come with a buttload of credits, I highly recommend. nothing to lose, potential lot to gain.

haha thank you @thehoo

How many credits will you go in with?

By way of APs?
I’m not sure. Probably none, I wouldn’t want to rely on my AP classes as credit.

Why wouldn’t you want to get credit from AP classes? Haha

Whether or not you should do the honors program pretty much depends on how many credits you go in with. 0-45 credits: do honors core. 45+ credits: do departmental honors.

I just doubt they’re acceptable as credit - does UWash really accept them?
I’ve taken AP English Lang, Euro, USH, Bio, and am in AP Spanish, English Lit, and Studio Art (not that Studio Art counts). How many does that translate to, if they’re usable?

@jaciwashere:

That really depends on your definition of “accept.”

If you’re a non-honors student, you receive both credit and placement (including general distribution exemption) from certain tests, without a credit limit.

If you’re completing College Honors, you still receive credit, but you aren’t exempted from anything in the Honors Core.

More detailed information is available here:

[UW Honors - AP & IB Credit Guidelines](AP & IB Credit Guidelines | University of Washington Honors Program)

As far as your total goes, assuming you get at least a 4 on all 7 tests (or at least a 3 in Spanish), you will end up with anywhere from 40-45 credits upon matriculation.
