I was just wondering what you guys thought would be considered the min requirements to getting into Vanderbilt University. Please state rather you're already enrolled in it, just looking into it, or already applied to it. Mainly i want you guys to tell me what you think the min ACT/SAT (more so ACT) scores would be and extracurricular activities.

There are obviously no minimums, and no one knows exactly what it will take for a certain individual to get in. That being said, if I were you I would shoot for a 2100 SAT & 32 ACT. With those scores you will still need top grades & pretty good EC's. If you were to manage say a 2250+ or 34+, the standard will be lower but not much.

That being said, there are certainly people w/ a 1900 SAT or a 28 ACT that get in.

yeah, like other places, there are no "min requirements" GPA wise or SAT wise. stambliark41's ranges are quite accurate. You can make up lower stats by really doing a good job on the subjective parts of the application, like the essays for one, something you have complete control over.

I'll be applying to vandy in the fall, and they have ranges on their website for the class of 2008:

Mid 50% range SAT I Verbal: 630-710
Mid 50% range SAT I Math: 650-730
Mid 50% range SAT I Composite: 1290-1420
Mid 50% range ACT Composite: 28-32

hope that helps a little...it also probably matters what school you are applying to in terms of what more focus is put on.

300 something people in class of 09 were ranked either number one or two in their class

Ya, i really want to go to vandy also. Anyone else already there or applying? Any stats?

i'm a frosh at vandy. ask me any questions and i'll try to answer them

what are you majoring in..? What were some of your stats from high school... anything really outstanding or were you just really well rounded? Hows the campus and social life? lol, and my last question.. how are the resources available to you, like internships and volunteering and stuff.. are there a lot of opportunties available to you, since its nashville and all.. lol, thanks!

I'm definitely majoring in Biology and I want a second major, although I can't decide if I should go with Spanish, or create my own major in either linguistics or statistics.

4.0 unweighted GPA, 1/~460 unweighted and weighted, 1570 SAT, 800 Writing, 790 US History, 760 Spanish, 9 APs by graduation with 4 AP exams taken by submission of application (all of which were 5s). I can't really think of any other 'stats'.

I think my biggest EC was shadowing doctors (over summers for a total of about 130 or so hours). I also did a bunch of other things like Teen Court, NHS, President of Math Honor Society, Minority Whip of Model Student Senate, VP of SGA, School Advisory Council, Hospital Volunteer, etc.

So far it's been fantastic. Everyone is really friendly and I've already made some close friends and a whole lot of 'acquaintances'. Definitely get facebook. You meet a ton of people that way. As for the night life, I don't drink so the frat parties aren't all that awesome. I've tried a few, but all people do is play beer pong and other random drinking games, so I tend to not go to them anymore unless I'll know lots of people there. There are a lot of people who drink a lot, but there's definitely enough people who don't that you won't be stuck in your dorm room watching tv or something. Other than that, I've been playing A LOT of ultimate frisbee :) There are a lot of other things too like juggling and break dancing lessons, plays in centennial park, rec center, ping pong, hanging out, walking around nashville, etc. You definitely don't get bored. If anything, I feel tired from doing so much more stuff than I did in high school.

I'm not sure about internships yet since lab research opportunities for freshmen don't really open up until at least summer, but for volunteering there are a ton of opportunities. There was a student organization fair and there was so much to do it was like high school times 100. You always hear that there's something for everyone and, after going to that fair, I think that's completely true.
