To Ben and other MIT admission officers

Does the stats people post on C.C. the typical, everyday application you see? Or are they considered middle-upper? I have been wondering about this for a while. People around here all seem to have amazing stats. Is it because most CCers are amazing people, or are most MIT applicants like that?

Well, there is no "typical, everyday application" - that's what I love about MIT. :-)

Your grades and test scores simply need to demonstrate that you'll be able to handle the work and thrive academically here. Because our applicant pool is very self-selecting, the majority of applicants are competitive in this regard. An 800 SATM is not really going to be any more competitive than a 750 SATM - both scores show us that you're proficient in math.

It's what you do beyond grades and scores that will make you stand out. We have a pretty amazing community here - we'll be looking to see what you will contribute to it.
