This is a thread of 'What to Bring' for students that will be coming from far away..perhaps internationally, or for someone from Hawaii that's going to the east coast.
I saw someone with a great post with a lot of useful stuff but the list included shoe boxes for various projects..and for someone far away, this won't be in priority.

I know this is somewhat of a copy of the other 'What to Bring' thread..but I thought this will be of help to narrow things down for those who will be limited to 2 suitcases & carry on bag of stuff, instead of a trunk of a car. I'm also trying to consider which things I can buy when I get to the school.

I can tell this is going to take a lot and a lot of planning so that's why I'm starting now =)
Thank you so much!

To start off, I know my suitcase will be filled with clothes.
What next?

You can always order posters from posters.com and have them sent to you at school. No need to bring those. Anything that is not clothes or personal, one-of-a-kind type items, you buy locally with a trip to a local Wal-mart or Target, or you can order online and have things sent to school. If you arriving by plane from another part of the U.S., you can always have items shipped as suggested by hockeykid. Coming internationally, I would just locate most items in the U.S.

when I moved here, we had an airplane shipment (boxes and boxes) that came a month after I arrived...do you think a shipment to exeter will really be worth it?
i know something valuable like a laptop won't be in the shipment..but what could be in there? i can't think of many things that would be worth the effort..and i'm definately gonna have a shopping spree (yay!) the week i get to the states before exeter starts so i don't think more clothes would be needed to be shipped either..

McskittlZ10- haha of course i'll bring my ipod! =)

Shipping really helps me every summer. You need to ship like 10 days in advance so that the boxes are actually there when you arrive. Ship FOOD, clothes, books... things you won't immediately need in case the box doesn't arrive on time.

Shipping sounds like a good idea as does ordering stuff online and having it shipped to the school. :)
I haven't been on CC in a while. There's this message on the top of the page: "Hello, padfoot_rox, it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help solve another member's problem, or just join a conversation?" :)

This is my 300th post and I am now a "Member". ;)

if people start thinking about packing now, we'll all go crazy! (or at least i will) for me I've added all countdowns and early preparations. I'm going to do most of the stuff over summer. the reason for this is i'll become anxious and be all mad that i have to wait so long for school. counting down i've learned, also makes time feel so much longer than it actually was. for now, i'm going to focus on the rest of this school year.

since im traveling all the way from texas,
i figure ill just pack the majority of my stuff in boxes,
and have it shipped to new england
that way i dont have to deal with cramming it in suitcases

emmers44,
during my countless hours working on app essays and dealing with school at the same time.. i think ive managed to learn how to manage time pretty efficiently and i'm coming half way around the world so my list is starting now..haha.
over my summer i've got a lot more important things to deal with than boarding school, and i won't have much time to deal with the concept of packing either.
everyone is different, and so are their circumstances.
and with all i've gone through, my circumstances ensure i won't 'become anxious and be all mad that i have to wait so long for school' thanks for the advice for..though it doesn't apply to me much
