To buy or not? Mac or Toshiba? Need help please!

<p>Hi! I really need help!! its long but please help!!! thanks!</p>

<p>I currently have a refurbished Toshiba, I got it in early 2009. it has AMD Turion x2, 250gb in hd and 3gb ram, Ati Radeon Graphics, etc its an L series, I think the cheap series.</p>

<p>Anyway, I have burnt a cd once, Ive played movies twice or thrice, and every once in a while use the cd slot for software and blah blah...
I use the usb often specially because of my cellphone, and I also use an external bluetooth device and the sd card slot (camera). I would say it is still in good condition, although it has some issues like I cant put it to sleep or hibernate cos it wont work afterwards and I would have to reboot. The battery doesnt work anymore, and I bought a not original charger (cos the original one died) and that charger didnt help with the battery life and was making it go off out of nowhere. Anyway it still works, I mean I use it mainly for web browsing and papers, photos, music, some videos and I am a cellphone hacker and have some programs but thats it.</p>

<p>So yeah, it is still running good.</p>

<p>Im starting college this fall, so I was wondering if I really need a new laptop, of course I would like to buy a new one but I would have to work this summer to get it so the first thing I need to know is, how much I need to purchase a new one and if I really need it since I could use that money for somehing else I also need (like winter clothes ).</p>

<p>I would love the new MB Pro with Intel Core i5, 4gb ram, 320hd, etc etc. Mainly because Ive always wanted a Mac, I had a Mac for 6 months but it was borrowed, anyway, the reason I want the Mac is because I think it is reliable (for 4 years), customer support, becoming popular, metal body, lighter, thinner and apparently they are really good for video editing.</p>

<p>BUT
I wouldnt mind getting a Toshiba again, since they are WAAAYYY CHEAPER and with less I would get more hd, etc, for half the price of the mac, I could get a toshiba with i3, 500hd, 4gb ram, etc....</p>

<p>Or I could keep my actual Toshiba, or if you have any suggestions..welcome!</p>

<p>I plan on getting a minor in Film Studies. I like photography and perhaps at some point I might take a photo class or something. I want to learn in College how to really use photoshop. </p>

<p>I would like to use my laptop to play movies, music, essays, browse the web, fb, youtube, etc etc, nothing special. I don't play video games. I have around 14gb in music, and might increase to 20gb (tops) since I download the music from p2p and Im aware those kind of downloads arent legal or allowed.</p>

<p>Any suggestions?? PLease!!</p>

<p>I suggest you stick to your current laptop at least for a semester or two quarters and then if you feel like you could really use a better battery life or just a faster computer, you will be able to choose a new computer based on your needs and make a better choice. You can always ask for suggestions here again in the future if you decide what you currently have is not enough.</p>

<p>If your current computer serves your needs, then I would keep it until it no longer does. If the battery isn’t working then you can buy a replacement battery for a lot less than a new computer. They sell batteries on ebay that aren’t too expensive.</p>

<p>I don’t know much about the new computers. Everyone seems to like the mac but people say the pc gives you more for less.</p>

<p>just something to add to your pros/cons: S’s GF has a MBpro. Love, love, loves macs. But has had trouble with some software used in classes at school - only for PC.</p>

<p>She also has a lot of artsy interests (but not her major) so that is why she went mac. I agree with keeping what you have for a semester or two - S did not have a laptop and so he purchased a pc. He said he would still buy PC, but maybe picked something different.</p>

<p>Then I am keeping my laptop :slight_smile: and like you all said, if after a semester I feel like I need to upgrade then I will and yeah, a battery is a lot cheaper than a new laptop.</p>
