Hello CC! I am in a bit of a dilemma planning my classes for next year. Next year I'll be a junior and am faced with picking between AP Computer Science and AP Calculus AB.I have no interest in mathematics whatsoever, much more into humanities and my extracurricular reflect this. Will college admissions frown on a decision to skip Calc AB and take Comp Sci instead?

Just to note, at a minimum I will graduate with 4 honors (Algebra I and II, Geom., Precal) and 2 college (AP Stats, IB Math Studies) level math courses regardless.

Thank you so much!

Most places generally require up through precalc anyway, but you have 2 more college level math classes beyond that - and since you’re majoring in something humanities related, you would be fine I would think.

What subjects are you considering majoring in?

Actual humanities majors are unlikely to need any more math beyond whatever the college requires for everyone, although philosophy majors (and those intending to go to law school) need to be able to think logically. Social studies majors may need additional (possibly major-specific) statistics courses. Business and economics majors typically need a year of calculus; those planning graduate school in economics need a lot more math than that.

If you do eventually need calculus for some reason, AB in high school will be a more gentle introduction than a typical college calculus course.
