I took my SAT II subject tests today and originally signed up for the Math 1, U.S. History, and Biology M. I think I probably got a 700 plus on bio, did decent on Math, but I decided to take the Lit instead of History and think I bombed it. I'm guessing like a low 500. Should I just cancel it and retake the Math I and Bio M in December along with the Latin which I've decided to take? How much will one bad score affect the way colleges look at my application?

bump bump x10

If you REALLY think you bombed lit, go ahead and cancel. But lit has a really nice curve (even 8x = 800 sometimes), so you might do better than you think. That's what happened to me--I walked out thinking I bombed it, was considering cancelling, and ended up with a 790.

krbanks, do you remember how many you missed?

I have no idea. I was unsure on a lot of them, but from my score I assume not more than 9 or 10 wrong. Lit is a problem in that misinterpreting one bizarre 16th century poem really screws you up.

I wouldn't cancel it. Just retake it in December if you did poorly.

But I'm not going to retake literature. I'm bad at critical reading.

if you're not applying anywhere early, then just cancel it to be safe, even though that also cancels your other scores. you're supposed to take the subject tests that you are strongest in, and it looks like english is not your forte, so it doesn't make sense for it to be sent in as a bad score to colleges

Don't most colleges require just two SAT II's? So out of the three or however many you've taken, they'll probably take the two highest ones.

check with the specific colleges you are applying to; some require 3, while others need only 2

i think most ivies and some other schools require 3...
