Carolyn, I know that you live in the San Diego area. I was wondering what your opinion on Point Loma University is. I know that it is a fundamental Christian school, but what are its strengths? Location is nice, but the campus looks like it could use some maintainance. I've heard that it is strong in its nursing and teaching departments. Thanks

Sounds like you already know quite a bit about Pt. Loma Nazarene U. Beautiful location, right on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Many of the buildings are older as they were built at the turn of the century for a theophysical society. Safe campus. They are attempting to expand and recently bought some property in the Southern part of San Diego County where they are planning to build a larger campus. Don't know what the time line on that is, or whether that will mean the original campus would be sold.

Very Christian - attendance at Chapel is required three days a week. They take attendance.

Strongest programs are its career oriented programs - in addition to nursing and education, they have an accredited business program (with an accounting major) that is decent. Other interesting programs include fashion merchandising, dietetics, sports sciences.

The students and alumni that I've come across are about what you'd expect from a Christian college: nice, clean cut, religious but strangely not as apt to proseltize as alumni from other Christian schools I've encountered.

Overall, it's a nice little college, no great shakes in the intellectual department, but steps above some other Christian evangelical schools in terms of preparing students for real-world careers.
