Now that Zoosergirl has received her first acceptance, I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who have taken the time to answer questions and offer guidance, wisdom and support. For those of you who are "experts" on the process I'm sure this can seem quite repetitive, but I want to assure you that the collective "you" have been enormously helpful -- even answering questions that I didn't know to ask! Lurking on different threads has provided food for thought in so many ways. For example, the various "student debt" threads have forced me to think and clarify issues that are outside my normal scope. As a result, DH and I have had some important conversations with Zoosergirl. I don't know where she will end up, but before I "met" all of you, she was leaning toward a school that have left her about $80,000 in debt before the Master's that she will need to teach. She is now leaning toward a state school's five-year master's program in her exact field -- for mature and well-considered reasons. Without all the information provided by CC and its members, we could have made some big mistakes because we didn't know what we didn't know. So consider yourselves as having provided a real service and kindness to others on this confusing and anxiety-provoking path. And consider yourselves thanked!

Pay it forward. ;)

Curmudgeon: Indeed.

CONGRATS TO YOUR D!!!!!!!!!
on her FIRST acceptance!!!! Such an important milestone, isn't it? I still remember my son's. Though he didn't ultimately end up at that school, I shall be forever grateful for that acceptance and for the "we want YOU" feeling that it conveyed.

Congrats Z- I remember this time last year. (was it only 1 year ago??) My D's acceptance to Oneonta was a BIG RELIEF. I think it was the first school acceptance where she could actually see herself going to that school. It took all the pressure and worry off d and the rest of us.
The rest of the Admission season should be a piece of cake. I have a feeling you'll also get good news from the 5 year program too (Plattsburg??)
Good luck-

And let me add my thanks to all you veterans too - if not for you, I wouldn't have known about "rolling admissions" or thought about having d apply to one - but having that first acceptance in hand - Wow! I have learned so much, and I do hope to pay it forward.

Thanks again!

I can still remember last year D exclaiming "I'm going to college!!". No matter who they are, that is a great moment for them.

I can't wait to see the screen name Zoosergirl pop up online somewhere.

"Wait...how do you know my mom?"

Btw, congrats ZM. Both for the specific and for surviving the process.

Hi zooser -- Just wanted to congratulate you and your D! Having an acceptance in hand makes such a difference through the rest of the process! Great news.

Also wanted to reiterate zooser's thanks to CC. Made a huge difference to us last year with kid #1, and I know it will continue to do so with kid #2 in a couple of years.

Thank you all so very much for the kind words. I don't think you can possibly imagine how much you really and truly have helped me. I'm not sure if Zoosergirl would be having such a great day today if not for all of you. I certainly wouldn't be able to keep it in perspective.

congrats to zoosergirl! (and zoosermom!) It IS a relief isn't it? Last year, ldgirl got early acceptance from our big flagship and though it wasn't my d's first choice, she could see herself there and enjoying herself. Having that acceptance in hand makes waiting on all those other decisions immediately easier. :)

congrats to both zoosergirl and zoosermon!! great news.

Congrats-that first acceptance is always sweet!

Congratulations!

(Still waiting for number one...)

Zoosermom:

I am absolutely delighted to read such great news! Congratulations to your D!

Congratulations zoosermom! There really is no need to go $80K in debt for a good education. Have a happy retirement. :)

Another congrats added to the pile here!! that's wonderful news! A big relief!! And its great that our d. is keeping an open miind. Does NY still have the Regents scholarships?

Another congratulation. Keep us informed.

Congrats! Like WashDad, still waiting on an acceptance here, and am a little jealous when I look through the acceptance thread.

That's exactly what I kept telling my parents the night of my first acceptance (in late March!). It's great to have that first one under your belt. Even though there was a fantastic school I was pretty much positive I was going to get into, it was tough waiting until the late days of March to officially hear from a school. Don't worry all you parents whose kids haven't heard; it will happen eventually. Congrats to your daughter, Zoosermom.
