To Christians

I like to debate about these kinds of things. I don't care if anyone changes their beliefs for it.

I'm sick of all these uneducated people making all these false claims that the Christian Church just "guessed" things. Where the hell are they getting this information from? The DaVinci Code? Sorry to them, but that was fiction. And what makes these people rag on JUST the Christain Religion and Christians? If you ask me, they're all just trying to act all, "I'm so cool, I hate Christians!" Honestly, I think they're all just lazy, and it's easier for them just to bring down people of another religion who actually devote their time into church, then to actually get off their ass and devote time to finding something THEY believe in.

I don't see how this thread has been targeting Christians, after the OP, most of the thread hasn't specified denominations. I've been talking about the concept of a higher power expressed by just about every religion. No one is talking about the Da Vinci code here. It's a debate. That doesn't involve hating the other side or their opinions. I believe in reasoning, not faith. Therefore, I DO have something to believe in and am not just ranting about Christianity. I also devote time to my Hindu temple because it is part of the community I belong to. If you don't appreciate the debate and take every viewpoint against you personally then you can ignore it rather than make assumptions about it's motives.

Actually, if you read the posts, you would see that there are some people, not all, who were criticizing Christianity. Also, I only suggested that maybe some people think the DaVinci code is fact. I know that no one was talking about it in the posts.

DEISM people DEISM. Best "religion" out there, especially to the scientists.

Thomas Jefferson was a Deist....

And Descartes

^
A-men

omg what irony

Wow, we're such ehap nerds.

The DaVinici Code was probably the worst book I ever read. In the beginning of the book Brown list "facts" that he percieves as true, even though they are distorted.
1. Way too predictable
2.Brown had a fetish to bash the church and Christians every two pages.
3. Even if it was fiction the book was a joke.

Kinda off topic but I am sick of people talking about it

if you were referring to my posts, in which i explained that i argued that the following of Christianity can, in many instances, be a choice made out of fear, unwillingness to reason for one's self, or pure compliance, than i must say, you are quite wrong in your assumption that everyone who does not automatically agree with your beliefs has a warped perception of the faith so to believe that The DaVinici Code is an accurate portrayal of the principals of Christianity. It is also presumptuous of you to assume that anyone who realizes that any organized religion, not just Christianity, involves ignorance and dogmatism is "uneducated"; to accept any faith wholly, without any reasoning or personal thought involved (as it usually isn't- religion is instilled by parents, tradition, the media, etc.) is ignorant. you can not deny that: it is not often that a person thinks about the world, attempts to see it from an objective view point, then readily accepts what others tell them is so. Religion involves turning one's mind off and turning ones life towards an idea that was not theirs. there is nothing wrong with that, if you wish to live such a life; it is indeed far easier to go through life believing in something, questioning nothing, or if questions or doubts arise, to write them off as a lack of faith, knowing that the world is a good place and salvation will be rewarded to those who believe.

you can say that those who question the world, God, and themselves are uneducated, lazy, or whatever cheap and meaningless insult you can come up with, but it is obvious that people like you, who would rather insult people for thinking for themselves, for trying to see the world objectively, and for pondering the beliefs of those who so strongly adhere to something that has never been proven, and will never be proven (only because they were taught to do so) lack the perspective needed to live a life that is not blind.

no one here "hates christians!" or thinks that they're "so cool" because they think on a different level, and look at the world a different way. and believe me, no one thinks that The DaVinici Code is anything other than the most overrated book ever published.

i never could understand why many religious people could never seem to handle criticism; if a person is sure that they are correct, why is it that they cannot handle a debate, whereas many people (like myself) who have no idea what is out there, but try to find the answer for themselves, can speak openly about such topics. i do not condemn religion, i just do not understand how anyone can go through life refusing to question anything evern for a second. you can't deny that the very, very religious tend to be the most closed-minded of people.

hahahaha k-theory da man

People are posting about christianity because the thread is titled "TO CHRISTIANS"!!!

It is not titled "To people who believe in God". People are simply staying on topic, so everybody stop complaining about that.

K-theory: Actually Descartes was a theist. Much of his thought rested on proving the Roman Catholic God.

O rly?

hm...they need to update the ehap textbooks then.

of course, theist is inclusive of deist...unless you have a different definition of theist..

Kay, so I'm Jewish. So this thread isn't for me? But I haven't seen any other of my Jewish comrades (you could say "Jew Crew"...haha.) around here, so I'll put in my two cents.

I believe in G-d.

But I believe in your right to not believe in Him as well. Jewish people rock like that. We don't believe in recruiting people to our faith, unlike Christians who have a habit of forcing the Bible down our collective throat.

They have good motive. Take a look at the book of Revalations sometime...you might understand why they are trying to convert you. They are "worried about your soul."

Well, unlike every other religion out there, the entire Jewish nation heard G-d speak...instead of hearing it from a person on the street. (What would you think if someone today claimed to be the son of G-d?) Look it up sometime. Judaism is the only religion that claims national revelation.

Mostly because we rock. We don't feel the need to recruit people to "save their souls," because if you are a good person, you will have nothing to worry about. While the "second coming of Jesus" will have the majority of the world burning in suffering and pain while the chosen few are brought to heaven...in Judaism, we are waiting for our Messiah to bring peace to the world...to the Jewish people AND the non-Jewish people. Everybody gets some peace...enough to go around.

Anyway. Let's all just live and let live...be kind to your neighbors. STOP TRYING TO CONVERT ME.

PS - Christians don't try to convert people? "Jews for Jesus" anyone? Give me a BREAK. Started in the deep South, the premise being that Jesus is the Jewish messiah. If anyone had ANY knowledge about what the Jewish messiah entails, this group would be quickly disregarded. Just a (very!) flimsy ploy to try and convert Jews to Christianity.

The Jewish Messiah will bring eternal peace...does it look peaceful on Earth today? I don't think so.

So...I'll stop babbling now. :)

Jews for Jesus lol... that defeats the purpose of being Jewish.

Well I'm sorry to say, "Lux Perpetua", but basically that entire post just contradicted yourself and was actually quite funny reading you ramble on trying to sound educated. But that's all I'm going to say about it.

apparently thats all you can say. i did not contradict myself, clearly you either misread what i wrote or you are simply incapable of understanding it. thats alright though, i did not expect someone like you to be able to read my post without getting defensive and insulting me as you did in your previous posts. some people just can't handle ideas that challenge their own, especially if they don't understand them.

its really sad you feel the need to attack me because you disagree with my ideas. its just a discussion, after all.

I think that people believe in god because they are afraid. I don't blame them; I mean, dying and going to "paradise" sounds like a really fun alternative to a whole lotta nothingness. I guess I feel like there is some sort of "power" out there, but organized religion is such a mess. It has created so much tension, as if one "god" is better an another, as if the ideals of a small group are right because they have some random book. I'm sorry, but blind hatred and fear of certain lifestyles is definitely not "right".

Maybe if the bible mentioned the dinosaurs, I'd be a believer. But it's kinda funny they missed that, you know? I bet God would have been proud of those.

On a completely different note, embrangled, for someone so concerned with peace and harmony among all, you really like to insult peoples' religions and beliefs. You sound as elitist as your Christian arch nemeses.

"On a completely different note, embrangled, for someone so concerned with peace and harmony among all, you really like to insult peoples' religions and beliefs. You sound as elitist as your Christian arch nemeses."

Christianity is not my "arch nemeses" [sic], as you say...unless they try and convert me over to their religion. Once people begin to insist that they are right, and I am wrong...I get a bit cranky and defensive, as would anyone else.

I suppose, although I follow the Jewish line of faith, I am a bit of an agnostic as well...I hope I'm right, but I can't know for sure. Nobody can ever know for sure, and you would be foolish in claiming that you could. I don't think that is elitist, nor insulting.

I do not mean to come off in an elitist manner at all, but I am sorry if I do. :)
