To combat the oveblown sexual assault issue on campus...the right to carry guns on campus?

My question wasn’t “Should the officer start shooting everyone he sees?” My question was “If a criminal and a law-abiding CC person are shooting at each other, how does the officer know which one is the criminal?” You have more faith than I do in all CC holders’ ability to follow their training in a high-adrenaline emergency.

It sounds like you believe that as long as people are shooting only at each other, the officer shouldn’t intervene.

Shooting takes seconds. There is not all that much intervening to be done in that situation beyond perhaps yelling stop or freeze or something. I don’t know what people think police training involves but you are right that they can not usually tell the good guys from bad guys in a shoot out and will usually not just pick one to shoot at until the guns are pointed at them. This doesn’t happen very often, either. And, the idea of arming college kids to shoot potential rapists is just silliness.

Bad Idea Jeans

“overblown”? has the OP ever been raped? (& has anyone here googled hazing porn?) it’s a serious problem and as parents we should all be very very concerned about the environments our kids (and we) are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for. sexual assault on campus is hugely complicated and just throwing guns into the mix won’t help anyone. the title of this thread is disturbing and I think is evidence of the male population trying to minimize it

stick to facts instead of hypothesizing, here’s one example http://www.necn.com/news/new-england/First-of-4-Defendants-Convicted-in-UMass-Gang-Rape-298107991.html

@rumrunner, I’m pretty sure the OP’s title was almost incredulous is the proposal is as stupid as they come for a variety of reasons – sex on campus whether consensual or not usually involves alcohol, rape usually involves people who are know to the victim, etc. Guns are not relevant to the actual situations that matter here. Rape on campus is a serious problem but allowing students to carry guns on campus is not a serious response to the problem. I actually laughed when I saw the title. I haven’t read through this thread but I suspect that was @dstark’s intention.

@shawbridge, I am glad you laughed. You are right of course.

unfortunate this forum has selected this thread and only this thread for this topic and I am repulsed

rumrunner: Some of us have been discussing sexual assault on college campuses for years now. Since Nov. some of us have discussed this almost daily. The only way to understand dstark’s thead title is in that context. He is one of the good guys. Just a few of the threads:

There is always an active thread about sexual assault. Just look around.
