i'm applying to cornell and here's my situation:

I go to a very difficult / challenging school (public) and take all honors and AP's so my GPA is low. My unweighted is about 3.5 and weighted is about 3.8

My SAT's are 2280, 3 subject tests all above 700 and passed all AP's with 4 or 5, my ECs and community service are pretty good, not mindblowing like some people on CC though.

I know Cornell looks for fit, and my stats probably won't change much by the time I apply this fall, the essay is basically the only way to show that I can handle Cornell.

I want to write something about how I actually enjoy difficult classes because they challenge me to push myself harder..something along that line but that might seem a little too common as a topic...

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what their essay was on, how you showed your "fit", ...any random thoughts on the essay.

I'd love to have someone PM me their essay for a sample..

my common app essay was about being biracial in a white family. my cornell supp essay was just answered the “why cornell” question which i dont think would be very helpful to you because its about how i came to international relations as a possible major, and most importantly cornells diverse student body.

my common app. essay was about being a country music fan in nyc, and how that’s shaped me as a person. that might have helped show my “fit” because it supported diversity…not being afraid to stand out, and all of that. my “why cornell (cas)” essay elaborated on my interests in English, journalism, sociology, and asian studies lol…a tad broad, but i linked the first three together in terms of academics/ECs and added in the last one as an exploration of my heritage.

my common app essay was about my dad’s sudden illness on a trip to china, and how i became independent and responsible by helping take care of my brother in a place i was unfamiliar with.

my cornell essay for engineering was about my first time building a computer and my desire to explore the computer and my fascination with it. at the end i did a bit of sucking up with a paragraph about how cornell engineering would help me explore even further

For the common app I recylcled an essay I had written about my time at Boys State and the leadership lessons I learned.
For the engineering essay I wrote about how I came to find engineering to be my calling and how Cornell’s multitude of engineering related opportunities proved that it was a place where I could probably look into engineering more deeply and find how I wished to use it/explore it. I.e. Mechanical, chemical etc.

Common app was about how I never did much work in school and generally spent my time doodling in class and how I took one of the doodles and tried making more of it. Was probably a good fit because it showed how I am willing to go far with an idea that I believe in.

The why cornell essay, I talked about how I am passionate about a large variety of things, and how no matter what I end up focusing on, there is a good chance that cornell will have a department full of really good people to work with. This bit fits pretty well with the whole “an institution for any study” mantra of cornell.

I would talk more about things you’ve done besides classwork in your essay, as thats the whole reason its there. Did you ever persue an idea introduced you in the classroom on your own? If so, then you should talk about that instead.

Common app essay was about fate and my experiences with it.
Supplemental essay was about…corn.
