To Current Students: Debate

I'm just looking for some general information regarding Dartmouth's debate team--How competitive is it? To anyone who competed in Public Forum in high school, how does Parli compare? How does the D-plan affect competition?

Any general thoughts on the team (sentimental, purely objective, or somewhere in between) would also be appreciated!

bump :)

I exchanged emails with the Dartmouth debate coach, and he confirmed my belief that their policy debate program is one of the best in the country.

The post above is indeed correct that Dartmouth policy is a top-tier program. Too, DDI, which is generally considered the most prestigious high school summer policy debate camp, is held at Dartmouth.

My point of reference: 2nd at NFL Nats in PFD.

Thanks guys! I’m not really interested in their summer program, just the college-level debating, but that’s good to know as well.

And lol IRJunkie, you lost to kids in my state (Durham) then.

Does Dartmouth do Lincoln Douglas or Parliamentary? Policy’s so ridiculously boring

I think most, if not all, college debate is limited to policy.

Dartmouth is a member of the American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA)

Does anyone know how the D-plan affects debate season?

IRJunkie…you were the 2nd place teams at nats!!! My pf partner and I watched that round and thought that both you and your partner were absolutely fabulous - congratulations on your amazing accomplishment!!!
Do you think you are going to do debate in college?

Does anyone know if Dartmouth’s IE program is at all good?

I’m an oratory guy myself :)
