To current UC students

How hard is it to get into a course that is outside of your major?

I am entering as a psychology major (B.A.) and need to complete my science classes (organic chem, molecular bio, anat etc...) for future plans of getting into grad school. I heard it is pretty difficult to get into a class that isn't part of your major. Especially science classes.

Am I in trouble?

It really isn’t that difficult, but it depends on the class size. I’m currently a business econ student at UCSC and I’ve already taken two upper div courses outside my major (math and computer engineering).

Otherwise, it just depends on your enrollment time and not your major. The only problem I see you running in to is if you are trying to crash a course, then they might give preference to a person actually majoring in the subject.

thanks. anyone else?

bump

I’m kinda worried too about the whole “Pass 1 is for majors only” thing.

Agreed with MidnightGolfer, enrollment time is crucial! I’ve kinda just talked to the Professor and let them know my situation, and they have made exceptions, but…that’s beyond lucky.

Yes. For Pre-med classes it is hard to get into. Majors get first choice and you are left with the rest.
