any tips people would like to share?

i don't understand the question, parties are just a place to hang out, chill, talk, drink, dance if there's music. anything outside of regular social norms shouldn't be done

DO NOT sexually assault black female strippers at lacrosse parties. EVER.

there aren't really any cut-and-dry do/do nots at parties...they're just a social situation, and you should really just be yourself.

Don't ask what to do and not to do at parties.

Do

hook up with girls/guys
show your dance moves
get drunk

Don't

sexually harass people
drink so much that you die

Don't: Drink too much before you hit the floor. You'll regret it 'cause you'll be dancing and grinding with this ugly chick that you thought was hot when really when you wake up the next morning you will regret it.

^^^^

Truer words were never spoken. I learned this one the hard way.

Acceptable party behavior varies from campus to campus but to be nice to your host and prevent any undue attention from the fuzz, these are sure fire ways to stay off any one's **** list.

These are basically the most conservative party rules to prevent a party from getting busted...

Stay inside. Even if it's hot or you're trying to make a call...noise bothers neighbors and gets the police called.

If you do go outside, don't pee there (especially guys). That will get the cops called even faster than noise.

If a room has the door closed, it's probably closed for a reason either by the host or by someone in that room. Do not go into a closed room without permission.

Ladies when you use the bathroom, be economical with the TP...it's expensive and can easily clog the cheap plumbing of the old and/or cheap houses most college students live in.

If you make a mess or drop a beer bottle, clean it up.

If you do something that is beyond your ability to control, like you flood the bathroom, tell someone who lives there...flooded bathrooms suck (I know from experience...****ing TriDelts).

If the police do come and patrol outside, hang up your cell phone and shut up until the police leave.

If the police bust the party and you are a minor, PUT DOWN YOUR DRINK, follow instructions, don't speak unless spoken to, hang up your cell phone, don't say phrases like "I'm so wasted" or "Can I get my money back". When you get outside, call a sober driver to come get you or walk home. If you know of another party, do not broadcast it to everyone b/c youre only going to get that party busted. In fact your far better off waiting until you get in the car before calling others about a party. If you've been drinking DON'T DRIVE or get in your car...that's a DUI just jumping into the officers lap (I've seen that one happen).

If you have to smoke, make sure you go someplace appropriate, most leases have no-smoking clauses.

Do not eat the hosts food.

Try to avoid breaking ****.

Recognize when you feel ill and are going to puke, and please try to make it outside or to a toilet...cleaning puke is about the worst thing ever.

If some older guy starts yelling at you to stop messing with the music, the lights, the tv, stereo, light box, dj stand, whatever, listen up and don't ***** and moan that he's ruining your fun...it's probably his house.

Realize that the host is putting up with a lot to have you over so please be kind.

Especially if you're white and from the South. AND if you have a previous record of being violent. Things don't usually end up well when that happens.

Actually, one of the guys who was arrested was from Long Island...

But Duke is located in what is considered the South, where racial tension still exists to a very large degree compared to other parts of the US. I was referring to the area, not the actual background of the accused.

Use your common sense and you should be fine.

Use alcohol and weed in moderation.

Stay sober and drive home safe! Don't wreck yourself, don't harm other people, and keep your car in one piece!!!

Hospital bills, auto body, and the emotional stress of doing something bad all add up over time. That's why I've never drank and why I never will.

DO:
*Eat beforehand, esp. if you are going to drink.

*Have a charged cell with you to call friends if you need to leave

*If a lady, keep your drink with you at all times. Don't accept a drink that could have been drugged. Do not drink anything that tastes salty.

*Mingle.

*Space out alcohol consumption with water consumption. It will prevent you from getting too wasted (slows down drinking, so you know how drunk you are) and helps prevent hangovers.

*Come and go with a friend.

*Dorky advice: know when someone needs medical attention. It's hard to guess, but the big signs are not remembering things from minute to minute, lack of all coordination (floppy limbs - unable to hold up head, walk, or move arms), and the chills. The latter is a sign that the metabolism is shutting down.

DON'T:
*dear ladies - please don't put yourself in the situation where someone can take advantage of you. While I fully believe that the punishment for a night of drinking too hard is a hangover and not rape, reality is that the latter can be your punishment. Have enough respect for yourself to not let that happen to you. If you need to party that hard, do so in the company of friends close to you who care about your safety.

how can I start a post?
please help.
