To drop my ap class or not to?

My only AP classes I'm taking are AP US History and AP Chem for junior year. in addition, i have to take physics, too, honors algebra II/trig, american lit, french and latin.

I've taken honors chem last year, did really well, and got a 97.5 overall average for the year. I thought AP chem would be not as hard as I thought it would be. This year, I got a 58 on my first test of the year. To make it worse, I got a 73 on my first APUSH test, but I really don't want to drop that class.

I'm confused if I should drop ap chem or not. If i manage to get high grades on my next chem tests, my average still won't be high enough to get honor roll and it'll affect my gpa greatly. i've talked to the seniors and they said that the teacher i have now doesn't teach well and they all got 2s or 3s on the ap test. if i do drop it, i would have at least 4 hours of frees every week.

the bad thing about dropping it is that it doesn't look good for college, the chem sat II will be difficult for me, and i can't ask my teacher for a recommendation when i need one because apparently he "dislikes" people who drop his class.

Help!

i don’t think college will know if you drop the class early enough. The sat II chemistry shouldn’t be too difficult since by your own admission, you did very well in honors chemistry. Thirdly, why not ask someone else for a recommendation then?

Don’t drop the class or any class. Just work harder and get A’s.

The colleges won’t know that you dropped. However, not taking AP chem doesn’t look that good if your school offers it. Honestly, AP Chem is pretty much just what you covered in honors plus maybe one or two extra chapters. It’s leagues easier than APUSH, if you want to drop one probably drop that. Also, honor roll isn’t that important in HS.

Ugh, I’m taking IB (kind of AP) Chem this year and it’s definitely different from sophmore-year chem. There were some kind of confusing changes at first but I talked to the teacher for 2 minutes and that basically cleared everything up. I would definitely try to stay in the class and seek out help from the teacher (depends on how much he sucks), other students, and possibly tutors. As for AP, there’s always self-studying in addition to class materials. If it doesn’t work out after you’ve tried your hardest, hopefully your teacher will understand…

if you don’t enjoy the class, drop it
