To Drop or Not to Drop

Okay, so I'm a sophomore and I decided to take two APs, Art History and European History. Ironically, history is not my thing but they are the only two APs my school allows sophomores to take. The problem is I just had my first Art History test and received a 55%. Honestly, it wasn't too hard, I just didn't study correctly. However, we only have 3 tests this marking period and 7 this semester. Should I try to get great grades on my next tests or would it be best to drop it and take it junior or senior year? I don't think this will affect the "most rigorous" box as I am the only sophomore taking two APs. Sorry this is so long but I would love the advice.

i would tough it out

at my school, it would be way too late to drop.

I'd suggest more studying and caffeine and less sleep and life.

Btw, NoDoz are wonderful, but Vivarin can leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Okay, so I'm mostly joking, but you need to ask yourself if you're willing to make the effort to get the grade you want. If you're willing to put forth the effort, keep it. If you're going to blow off the work and continue with more Fs, then drop. Honestly, I'm not sure how you think you'll be able to do more than 2 APs per year if you're getting an F in your second and aren't sure if you'll stay in it. It may be a good experience, but if you're not planning on actually taking anything from it, dropping may be a good idea.

In summary, take it if you're going to do the work required to do well. Otherwise, drop it.

The reason I'm struggling so much is because I have 8 major classes this year out of 8 periods. In junior/senior year APs replace honors/CP classes but sophomore year they are in addition to regular classes. Does that change anything?

there's really no point killing yourself sophomore year. two years ago, i was in the same situation as you, i ended up taking 4 aps sophomore year and i stuck with it the whole year, but overall, honestly it really sucked.

and after that year, i got really super overconfident when i discovered that i could handle it (just barely, i was literally going out of my mind), and so i got extremely cocky and overconfident junior year and ended up with worse ap scores junior year than sophomore year.

but it's totally up to you. i can tell you now, if someone on CC told my sophomore self to drop a couple APs, I would have laughed in their face and ignored them. only now do i realize it probably wasn't all that worth it (well i guess we'll see if it was after college admissions this year).

make the decision you'll regret the least.

If my school offered a total of 10 APs and I took uhh 8 of them, would that be considered very rigorous to upper tier colleges (ND, Harvard, Columbia, Michigan, Northwestern, etc)

i got a 4 on euro w/out studying. you can do it! art? dunno! euro sux but do it!

If you do good on the AP, I guess it's worth it. You can do better if you're determined, and colleges want to see that.

If you do eight out of ten APs your school offers.. that's very rigorous =/
