Quarter 1 ends next week, which means I have one more week to drop a class.
I'm very tempted to drop AP Calc AB. I was doing well in the class (A-) but I got a C- on my last test and now my grade has dropped to a B-. We have one quiz left and even if I get 100%, my quarter grade will still be a B. That means that I would need a high A next quarter (which I doubt I could do) to pull my semester grade (what shows up on my transcript) to an A-.

I'm really torn on whether I should drop the class and take regular Calculus. The only thing is that I'm very worried how it will look for colleges. Although Math is not my strongest subject, I've been on the honors math track since 8th grade and I'm scared that a sudden drop down to the regular track would look very bad.
What should I do?

Info: I'm a junior, A- average, high test scores, looking to apply to top colleges for IR

Stick with the class. You’re just trying to take the easy way out and colleges don’t really like that. Unless you are sure you are going to get a C or worse, stay in the class. One B won’t look too bad. Just do your best to try to get the A or at least maintain the B.

Since you’ve been on the honors track, it will look bad if you drop down a level and you might get a withdrawal on the transcript which would just make things worse.

I had the same problem my sophomore year; I had honors algebra II, with the most horrible teacher who gave us around 40 math problems daily, the only problem???
he didnt teach, so I basically took “teach yourself alg II”
I had Cs throughout the 1st sem, and Ive pondered getting into regular math…

I didnt, my advice, colleges want someone who can stick it through,
someone who doesnt give up when the going gets tough…

AP calculus is prep for uni level math…
regular isnt…
