To ED II or Not, that is the question...

deferred ED from Brown, might pursue it, but it's unrealistic...now I feel like I need to apply ED II somewhere to secure a spot, because admissions is reallllllly competitive this year. possibily at tufts? I don't see anything wrong with going there, and it is my clear 1st choice (after brown). i'm kind of curious as to where else i will get in, though.

ED II-Tufts???? this is what i am trying to decide. i want to be able to pick, but i would probably end up picking tufts anyways....??thanks.

might as well, if it's your clear second choice then i say go for it

If it's your clear second choice, then go for it. Tufts and Brown attract many of the same kinds of students so it seems you're making a sensible choice.

Tufts has a real artsy style appeal as well...

If you can honestly say you have an interest in doing something internationally upon graduation (peace corp, teaching English abroad, diplomacy, international law, etc) and your essay deals with a passion for international involvement, that's what will get you in. If not...

You will definitely get into Skidmore and GW with excellent shot at Vassar and Hopkins. Don't know about the rest.

Wow, I am having almost the exact same dilemma, except I wasn't deferred from Brown ED, I was just planning on applying ED. And I'm really stuck.

Kqed: You mean the exact same dilemma in that you're also considering applying ED II to Tufts? Why did you decide not to apply ED to Brown after all?

I meant RD to Brown, not ED. And yeah, Tufts and Brown are really my top two choices, and I'm just now considering changing my application at Tufts to ED II. The only qualm I have is that what's really drawing me to that decision is finding out in February-- which isn't the best reason.

Apply ED II if you're sure the day you get into Tufts (fingers crossed!) you'll be delighted to go there. If you think you'll regret not applying elsewhere RD, then don't sign that ED contract!

P.S. Oh, and I heard that ED II people actually hear before February! ;)

i basically applied to brown ED for the curriculum, and tufts' is really daunting....i hate math but not science, and i'm sure i can find some social science-y science classes...my tour guide at tufts said he was taking an election statistics course to fulfill a quantitative reasoning requirement. my entire "Why Brown?" essay was about how i want to design an interdiscplinary course of study that exams the effects of rapid population growth on social, educational, and envrionmental policy. i'm not sure what i want to do after graduation...maybe teach for america or peace corps or a similar program, and then probably law school.
my essay is about deciding to stay in israel while the war with lebanon broke out despite my parent's wishes that i return home to safety in the states, and how that desire to stand up to violence (not a particular political party, etc., just the idea of war) has instilled in me a sense of righteousness and a desire to pursue justice, i.e. in founding a Peace club at my school, starting an area chapter of the Save Darfur Coaltion, etc. ..
My "Why Tufts?" is about Tisch College and how i value the fact that they have so many opportunities not only for active scholarship, but also active citizenship.

Anyways, I decided...
I am applying EDII! My counselor sent in the ED agreement today. I know taht I will be happy wherever I go to school, because I am the kind of person who will take the initiative to formulate my own experiences as opposed to waiting for opportunities to be handed to me on silver platters decorated with powdered sugar and sweet cherries. :)

lolabelle...before feb?!!! I read the old posts and last year, people heard on feb. 6th. regardless, i still have to do all of my other apps but i'm really excited now.
and kqed.... hope we both get into tufts! :) good luck. brown would have been fabulous but, as i posted above, we all have the power to shape our own experiences. all of these places are fantastic institutions with great faculty-student interactions and thus, people who are eager to help but who will also let us experiment and make our own decisions:)

Congratulations on your obviously well-researched decision to apply ED II to Tufts, Notro! I graduated this May, and was a Scholar in the Tisch College -- great experience, look into applying to that program as a freshman if you get in (fingers crossed!).

Don't worry about finding math classes to fulfill requirements. I am also a non-math person and found a few that fulfilled those requirements. The one your tour guide talked to you about most certainly must have been Math of Social Choice, which was actually one of the best classes I ever took to my surprise; and also a welcome A on my transcript!

You have a good attitude, and my feeling is that if you get in to Tufts, you will enjoy and make the best of your four years on the Hill.

RE: hearing back in late January, among my friends who graduated alongside me this year, of the ones who applied ED II, they heard before February. Could be different each year.

Best, LB
