To ED or not to ED

^definitely. Thats what ED is for. To say i prefer u over HYPS. Im applying to MIT as well, but still have Cornell at #1. Most applicants in RD pool are using Cornell as an backup ivy

I like how people look down on using Cornell as a backup Ivy lmao. I’d say don’t ED if your top choice isn’t Cornell or you’re not a 100% sure.

You’re pretty damn set to get into all of the schools you listed tbh. My first choice was NU. The schools I RD’d from your list are NU, Cornell, and CMU. Got into all three, I had a 35 ACT/Salutatorian/decent ECs nothing too special/high caliber essays/awesome letters. Dad said NU was too far, more expensive too.

To put things into a bit more perspective, I was also Stanford/CalTech/MIT rejected, and Princeton/Columbia waitlisted (no one got off Princeton, Columbia isn’t more of an eng school that Cornell).

Using Cornell as your backup Ivy… I don’t see anything wrong with it haha. It’s a great school, but I can understand why it may not be your top choice.

In my opinion, for engineering Cornell only really falls behind MIT, Stanford, CalTech. The job opportunities you get, the experience you get, the peers you have (particularly in the engineering school) won’t be any better at another Ivy. Cornell Engineering is at least = to all Ivies in terms of engineering in those categories, and rankings wise, it’s better.

If it is your #1 then apply. Stats look great and I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in. Cornell engineering is fantastic and any top student within the college has a great shot at working for any top company in the country.
