I don’t have much hopes that I will get into a very prestigious college, but I really want to know what college would be best to get into those companies. I’m not sure on what to think about this. If I go to UCSD or SJSU, will I have the same chance as everyone else who attended better colleges ( UCLA, Berkely, Stanford etc)? If I do, what college between the two should I attend?
Go to CC then.
I think the number one feeder school for Apple is SJSU. Google is another story. Probably need mit or Stanford.
I meant go to CC then transfer to Berkeley and LA. There are many ways to skin a cat.
Google recruits widely among colleges; a cursory LinkedIn search indicates significant numbers of San Jose State alumni working there. However, it is also generally thought to be rather selective in its hiring process, so an apparent bias toward more selective schools may reflect a stronger correlation between Google selectivity and the ability to be admitted to a more selective school, compared to hiring at other companies.
With nearly 50,000 employees, there simple aren’t enough Stanford and MIT grads to fill all the chairs at Google.
Those companies (and many more) recruit at quite a few CSUs. From SDSU in the south to Chico up north. CS and business majors are particularly appealing.
No college guarantees a job at any of those companies. So, I guess you can flip a coin and choose one.
In CS, the school you go to matters a lot less than how skilled you are, especially when compared to fields like finance. Most employers would take a UCSD grad (or a SJSU grad for that matter) over a Stanford grad if he/she was a stronger programmer.
UCSD, however, has a stronger CS program and will likely make you a much better programmer than SJSU would.
The answer is yes if not better. UCSD is on par or better depends on who you ask for CS than UCLA. It’s a notch below UCB but UCSD is still a top school for CS. If if you don’t believe CC parent, then go to CC and then transfer up to UCB or UCLA. I’ve found a link to who are top employers at these top CS schools, apparently Google is a top employer for UCSD. In 2013, Amazon is both top employers to UCLA and UCSD.
