so aside from having high grades/rank, what important aspect is needed to get into sfs? wat kind of ecs, internships, sats....

One word. Patience. Nevermind, three words. Patience, Patience, Patience. Seriously, all applicants for SFS transfer admissions will tell you that.
Anyway, get leadership positions at various IR clubs such as Model UN. And high high SAT scores.

it kinda sucks for me because these IR clubs weren't offered in the hell hole that was my hometown. instead, im relying on the sheer hope that they'll admit me so i CAN do these internships and learn and such.

beechbum, if they don't exist create them.

well i just got into SFS so I take back what I said lol

Congratulations!

First congrats to beechbum!

Some questions about the Model UN-My son's high school does not have this program. He is a Junior. I am not familiar with any deadlines for participation, but am wondering if there is still time for him to have his school participate for next year, assuming the school is agreeable.

Also, do most of the students who apply for the SFS, go onto the state department, CIA, etc.; or are these kids also interested in Law School or other areas?

My son's SAT's (first try) were 800 reading, 800 writing, but 690 math. He as one question short of breaking 700 on math, which isn't his favorite subject. He plans on rataking it in Oct. His rank is presntly top 5 percent, but that will be improving after taking 5 AP's and getting A's in them.

EC wise, he is on varsity cross country/track (all years), First Vice Pres. of National Honor Society (just inducted), Science league (all years)-3rd in state for earth science, 6th for bio; Science Olympiad-6th in state for ecology; Merck State Science Fair-1st in county for integrated sciences; foresics (just started this year) public forum-state and regional level; Preident of History Club-national history day -doesn't know result yet; teaches Civil War and Astronomy classes at local elementary school; responsible for helping with care of disabled sister, etc.

I don't know if he can bring it up, but he was a state finalist in the national geoography bee in 8th grade. He loves learning more about the world and geography, although not offered in our schools, was an independent interest of his.

No one from our school (public HS in Morris cty, NJ-rank goes in and out of top 10 in state) has been accepted to Georgetown in a longggggg time. Even the valivictorians aren't getting in.
