To go here or to go there? That is the question.

My choices have finally been narrowed down to three schools: Amherst, Grinnell, or Univ. Lincoln Honors program. I am planning on majoring in psychology or sociology and then getting at least a master's or higher. So I want to be able to get into a good grad program but not have too much debt. So each of the schools have some benefits and some downsides. Here are some of my thoughts:

Campus: all are beautiful

Location:
Amherst- must fly out (home summer and Xmas)
Grinnell- three hour drive (but new state)
UNL: one hour drive (same state)

Name:
A-best
G-good
UNL-not so great but better with honors

Cost:
A-52,000 in loans (wrote letter of appeal, so might change)
G- 28,000 in loans
UNL: no loans

Research:
UNL-lots of opportunities
A & G-more competition and less faculty to do research with

Size:
A- small, which I kind of like
G-also small
UNL-large, but smaller with honors

Diversity and new experiences:
A-most
G-good amount
UNL- diversity rests in grad students

I like the idea of seminar style classes so any info on whether Amherst or Grinnell is more that style would be good.

So any advice on where to go would be very much appreciated. Any new, additional info would be helpful also.

Amherst was one of my favorite colleges, and it sounds like it matches a lot of your criteria.

i don't understand if the loan amounts you put are what you'd pay per year. if it's what you'd pay per year, eliminate amherst, just becaus grinnell is a top LAC as well and would be alot cheaper in this case for you to attend than amherst.

pick between grinnel and UNL. If the 28K in loans is per year go with UNL. But if you assume that the total loans you'll take out for all the four years you'll be there than go with grinnell.

The loan amounts are what would add up after four years, liek0806.

Amherst!!!

UNL has sweet sports, which offer a lot to do on weekends...if that interests you at all.

yeah go Huskers! That is an added bonus, but not one of my main concerns.

gotta go with Amherst here. Most prestigious lac in the country.

i honestly dont see a purpose to spending so much money on amherst when you plan to go to grad school afterwords. you should just hit up grinnell and save yourself half as much.

it's like picking between columbia and harvard, or universityof chicago and harvard, they're both strong enough schools to get you into a top grad school, do you really need to shell out more money just for the better name school?

i would go with grinnell, which is often overlooked b/c of location

I second Grinnell

Thanks to all above, but I still am not decided. Anyone elses comments would be helpful!!!!

Is Grinnell good for psychology? Just wondering.
