here is my schedule for next semester:

intro psych
intro chem 181
econ 201
relg: bud studies

how hard of a schedule is this as i do want to do well in terms of gpa (ive taken aps for chem and econ and done well, how hard is the intro psych class?)

no lie, thats a pretty easy schedule especially if you have had chem and econ aps.

Yea, the psych and buddhism classes will be really easy. The econ class will be easy. The chem class will be work. Good first semester schedule, imo.

Mine would be...

STAT212
COMM180
ECON201
ENWR210
SOC255 - Law and Society

I'm off the waitlist for PHIL266 - Philosophy of Religion.

Which one is better, PHIL266 or SOC255 if anyone has prior experience in those classes? I saw the curve for PHIL266 and it doesn't look too good, majority B. :S

How hard are my classes if I want to get good GPA and attempt to go into the Commerce school?

Also, I'm thinking if I should replace PHIL266/SOC255 with MATH132... Should I or should I not?

Thanks for the input! :)

You should look at some of ehiunno's posts about his schedule.

I'm having trouble judging how hard my course load will be next year - any thoughts?

CS 205 - Engineering Software with Reynolds
MATH 231 - Calculus III with Mccrimmon
FREN 331 - Intensive French Grammar with Levine
ECON 201 - Principles of Economics with Kim
USEM 180 - Rise + Fall of the Soviet Union with Urbanovich

I don't see any ehiunno's post that can be particularly helpful for my questions?

All three of you have very doable schedules. Well balanced, nothing overwhelming, and a good number of credits.
Kmc: I have McCrimmon for Linear Algebra, he's apparently VERY good. Also, Urbanovich is VERY good as well, you should love that class. I find Russia/Soviet Union politics and history very interesting, and am dedicating to work his politics class into my schedule some semester.

lisieux: jask925 was making a joke in that you're schedule is not too hard, whereas ehiunno is taking a ridiculous amount of credits of math/physics.

OH. Lol. I see. Was there like a level 500 course or something for him, hahaha.

Like, 6 500-levels haha.

I think you can put off the PHIL266/SOC 255 and take MATH132 instead, which will be good for the comm school if you do well in it. The material tends to stay fresher in your mind if you have taken math recently - after a year, you need to do more review to play catch up. I think your schedule is relatively easy even with MATH132, but keep the credit hours no more than 17.

It's a good sign you got into the pre-requisite classes, as they are not easy to get since you're an incoming first-year. Next semester, you'll be focusing on other possibly higher-level classes while other prospective comm schoolers are scrambling to get into their prereq's. :)

this shouldnt be too bad eh?

ENWR 210 - meaning of life
KOR 101
PSYC 220 - the one that counts as a math credit yay
CS 101 - maybe 101e
PHIL 100 - if available, art 161

major possible computer science, cognitive science.. I don't know.
I think that's 16 credits cause korean is 4. Meh, should I trade my last course for a USEM? Maybe I should take another math class and finish off my area requirements lol.

First, I have heard from several students that McCrimmon is great. Too bad he doesn't fit into my schedule. I am kind of stuck with the Calc III Honors section.
Wondering if I am taking on too much for my first semster in college:

USEM Genetics (3 credits)
Math 231 Honors (4 credits)
Spanish 330 Lit Analysis (3 credits)
French 101 (4 credits)
Media Studies 240 (3 credits)

I figured the Media Studies wouldn't bee too difficult but I'm wondering if 17 credits is overload. The problem is that if I drop one course I go down to 14 credits and that seems too light. And I don't want to exchange either of my four credits for three credits because I really want to take those classes.

toomuchlight, thats a tough schedule. Have you had any experience with calc III before? If you haven't be really careful before you take that class because it has a reputation for being very rigorous. SPAN 330 will also be tough, and FRENCH 101 will be more work than you think it will. Your USEM and media studies classes won't be much work though. If you put your mind to it its a doable schedule, but its still gonna be tough.

Mccrimmon is ok, not great. If you want good teachers, they are very hard to find in the math department. I can, however, recommend you great instructors: Mike Hill, Michael Ershov, Monika Abramenko and Irina Mitrea. I've heard Irena Lasiecka is also awesome.

ehiunno...your feedback made me think. I took Calc 132 at UVA last year while in high school and got an A+ but I worked my butt off to get it. It was the hardest class I'd ever taken, and I also took PLAP 101 and ENGR 162 at UVA while in high school. They were hard, too, but not nearly as hard as Calc. So 331 will probably be twice as hard. I'm not sure why I'm taking it except I really love math. Spanish 330 is the only Spanish course I can take with a 5 on the Lang AP so I have no choice with that. I think I will drop that Media Studies class and pick up a one credit cross training course to keep in shape and have 15 credits. What do you think of that? You seem like a very diligent student so I take your advice pretty seriously.

I'll throw in my two cents: I have a friend that too basically the French version of your Spanish class, and she spent a lot of her time preparing for that class each week. She had a lot of papers, written in French (I assume yours will be in Spanish) and she had a tough time managing them. She's also a French major. So, I would expect a fair amount of work from it.
Since you love math, and seem to be good at it (132 with an A+ is impressive in high school), I would take Calc. Also, your USEM is good, so I've read/heard. I think your idea to drop the Media Studies class is good, because you've got a solid courseload without it, and it wouldn't be hard to place it in second semester or another year. Also, maybe consider another 1-c USEM. It is your first semester, so find stuff you enjoy (which you seem to have already), but don't try to go for too much (which you seem to already think you are).

Thanks for the advice shoebox. I thought you were only allowed to take one USEM per semester, though.

Oh. Didn't know that. Maybe you could switch your USEM then?

I think I will keep the fourteen credits plus one phys ed credit assuming that won't mess me up for Phi Beta Kappa...(not that I will be eligible anyway, but I'd hate to ruin the remote possibility) thanks shoebox and ehiunno
