Alright, this is about next year. My school has this internship program where you can shadow a career for a semester. Seriously, it's nothing prestigious or anything, but the problem is it takes up three periods. Yikes. Therefore, if I did it, I'd have to take one class before school (which would cut into club meetings) and wouldn't be be able to take the classes I want (including AP bio, AP physics, theatre, among other required stuff). If I didn't do it, I'd be able to take all my classes and maybe have a free period for a semester.
So, does this internship sound worth it? Would it make any difference on my college applications, or would it just look better to take the two sciences and my other courses?

Both internships and AP classes look good on college apps. I think the APs would carry more weight, but if you really want to do the internship, you should. It can give you useful insight into future major/career + you could write a great college essay about it.

umm personally i wouldnt do an intership if it interfered with school and taking away three classes from your schedule sounds pretty serious. it means that you cant take classes that you might enjoy and that might benefit you in the future. i mean not taking those three classes might hurt your gpa (depending how your school does gpa), as well as rank and that will have some effect on college admission process. some people might say that i'm just thinking about grades, grades, grades right now but that's truly not the case. if you take those classes you might also be able to take classes that you might like and if any of them happen to be ap then that can benefit you in college (you dont have to load on introductory courses and can have a light shechude or if you want you can dive into the more advanced courses). an intership is great idea but personally i would just find a better time to do it,lke during the summer for example.

Thanks. I was leaning towards doing the AP classes, but I wasn't sure if the internship would carry more weight. The insight was very helpful.

an intersip does carry more weight when you compare it with other ec's but it does not carry more weight than school itself. the classes come first and then the internship.

I would only do the internship if it was something you were REALLY interested in and would be a worthwhile and unique experience. Otherwise it just seems like it wouldn't work.

yea, my school has an internship program, but it doesn't interfer with school. i think that my cocurriculum placements have taught my FAR more than anything ive learned in any classroom. but i depends on the placement because if you're gong to be stuck doing desk work somewhere that you dont care about ... id skip it, but if youre doing something that youre potentially interested in, go for it. i had a reallly huge a*s for a boss my junior year (i worked on capitol hill) and learning to deal with him was the best thing in helping me relate to people and my internships have all helped me present myself well when it really matters(AHEMcollege interviewsAHEM).

but that's just me. i'm one also to put off school for life experience that i'll need in in the real world, and i think the fact that i had these internships sets me apart from other people. but it's completely up to you.

plus, you can always write about your internships in your apps (i didn't but i mentioned it in some of my essays) and it make me look mature, dedicated and passionate.

but like i said, its up to you. i also depends on what school you're looking at because some schools could care less about how passionate you are about something and more about your grades/classes. frankly, i picked interning and i still got into a top school.
