To live in suites or dorms?

Hello, I’m a student at a local CC in NYS. I’ve been accepted to a 4 yr SUNY school. My question is in the title, should I request to live in a suite or a dorm? I worry because I’m going to be a transfer and people might already have their groups. I’m also on the shyer side so dorms would force me to socialize. How important are dorms in making those starting friendships at a new college?

It will be a lot easier to make friends if you are in a dorm with a shared bathroom that’s down the hall. Plus if you can keep your door propped open while you’re in the room, that also makes it easier to socialize with other students.

I forgot to mention; I am transferring after my first year. I will be entering as a sophomore.

Do the dorms. We pushed the dorms like crazy for our freshman introvert D - she has made a lot of friends and got roommates lines up for next year. She knows of at least one sophomore transfer who wound up with freshman and she was fine. You WILL be forced to meet more people this way, and sometimes we need to be pushed out of our comfort zones to grow.

Thank you! I’ve been leaning this way for some time now and you’re helping me solidify my decision.
