To much overload?

Hey guys, tldr at the bottom ;)

So I'm polishing up my schedule for next year (so soon) and think I may be taking 1 to many aps. I'm currently doing 6:

AP US History
AP Language
AP Biology
AP Physics C
AP Stats
AP Calculus BC

Other courses
Chemistry and IB spanish SL (shouldn't be difficult)

Now I plan to do something STEM related in college. Also this is my Junior year. My dad thinks I should not do either AP US History or AP Biology and I think I agree with him.

I would definetly take these tests btw: Physics (2 tests), calculus, and stats. Also would probably man up and take the Biology if i took the class

Though I like science I'm not much of a Biology guy, and I'm doing AP Chemistry next year. However, I would probably rather drop history but I heard that Biology is very hard. So should I do Biology Senior year or not at all? Or should I just not do AP History? Or can I do them all? Our either even important to me wanting to go into something like Math or engineering (I personally don't think so)?

I only have a sport (ugh) first quarter too. Also next year I'm going to be doing concurrent enrollement in math and physics at a college so not sure how many APs I can do next year besides AP Chemistry and AP Literature.

I really want to get at least 8 AP classes in my highschool career. I've taken only 3 thus far.

TLDR: Plan to do STEM stuff in college. Should I drop Biology or history? Or neither? Or both :P

Would really appreciate help.

Regards,

It is really based on how much you can handle. That being said I would recommend dropping stats as it is supposed to be hard to take calc and stats at the same time…

Thanks for reply! I honestly don’t know how much I can handle (was actually a pre-ib guy first two years but my HS IB program is actually quite awful I realized compared to AP. So in a way I’m “new" to ap.)

I honestly think that handling stats + calculus will come easier to me than most. I’m very good at math and, being the nerd I am, already know most of Calc bc material (integrating techniques and some series stuff but not all).

I’m more wek in subjects that involve memorization more like history and IMO biology. I would prefer dropping one of them for an EC thing.

I guess I should really ask if taking Biology worth my time for what I plan to do for college or if it is better that I just focus on my other STEM subjects?

take AP biology, but drop AP US because that won’t really matter in a STEM field

I would probably drop one of the science AP’s. Although they look good and have to do with STEM, it can be too much especially come May when you have to prepare for all of the tests.

Yeah it’s definetly between dropping one of those two: biology or us history.

If I drop 1 science ap it’s definitely ap biology since it probably isnt near as vital as onysics IMO. I also plan to do some college physics stuff senior year. I might be able to take ap biology senior year but my school is small and it’s hard to fit together the classes correctly especially if I’m doing concurrent enrollment next year.

I agree that ap us history isn’t important at all to me. I’ve taken I think 2 or 3 history classes when I was in pre-IB (IB likes history) so I may have enough to be good enough already (?)

Think I’m leaning towards dropping the history just because I think that doing ap chemistry and ap biology and college physics and math would be super extreme for senior year! Doing college physics and math, ap chemistry, and other courses I choose senior year sounds very doable alongside college shenanigans - I’m I right?

You’re right to drop the history class especially since you’re leaning more towards a science and math based curriculum. Coming from someone who took APUSH,I have to say that class was fairly easy for me. So take challenging courses but NOT TOO MUCH senior year. In going into senior yr and I’m already stressed out because of my course load, college apps, volunteer and stuff. I think you are on the right track and choose based on what you can handle,so you don’t get tooooo overwhelmed.

Last year I had a friend who did both Calc and Stats, she said it was hard…maybe push it off? Summer class?

6? That’s not even bragging correctly. List the physics C separately to impress more people.
There was just a thread about 7. List at least 8 bro.

@SaraCo thanks for advice but as I already posted I think I’ll be fine as I’m honestly never struggled in math much

@Jwen
Physics C is two test (short too) but it’s still one course. No reason to count as 2 :P

@jarch
Thanks for advice! I’ve only taken 1 biology class in my life last year. It was just a very easy one. I know ap biology will obviously be difficult but was wondering if people go into it without much knowledge (I forgot a lot f it tbh).

Definetly would rather save easier APs for senior year.

It is not that the math will be hard, it is that you will confuse the two. From my understanding they use the same terms to refer to different concepts and can be easy to mix up in many ways. There will be time to take stats later, it really isn’t the greatest idea…

My friend who said that was good in math too. She got 98%+ in both. She graduated two years early.

She just said it was a lot of work to keep up in both.

Physics C is pretty much 2 courses just as US Gov is half a year but counts as 1 course, not half a course.

Yeah, it’s pretty impressive to put Physics C Mechanics AND E&M.

The Calc BC test really is a breeze, especially if you already have background knowledge. Our teacher tried to scare us into thinking it was the hardest thing ever, but honestly, even I got a 5. My test score average throughout the school year was an 85%.
APUSH was a challenge to me only because I despise all things history. It’s basically memorization, which isn’t hard, but takes up a lot of your time. I think you really should stick to Biology. If you make a pro/con list, the pros outweigh the cons by a much larger amount.

@ArtsyGirl
Don’t want to be rude since I understand that your taking time to help me but:
Have you taken the classes? Calculus and stats are completely different branches of math and if there are similar terms it would be those that apply to math in general. Also math isn’t about vocab.

@SaraCo
Alright cool then. I know it will e hard no matter how good I am at math but hey that’s the point :wink: lad to see your friend got by quite well. Also it might only be my school but it’s a choice which course you take for most kids. The “dumb" kids do stats and the “smart" kids to calculus ab (or bc if you’ve done ab sophomore year).

@BurnOut
Are you saying that colleges will count physics c as two AP courses? If so that’s cool XD

I know physics c is probably the hardest ap course but I love physics. Self studied physics b last year.

So Im in the process of dropping ap history. Probably will make it a free period to do some work. I should have everything sorted out by Wednesday and then I’ll kill the thread. Thanks for all the advice guys. Even if I sound rude I am still weighing everything you guys say with consideration :)

@candidcrocidles
Sorry didn’t see your post :slight_smile:
Yeah I heard calculus bc is a breeze if your a math nerd. Really it only adds in integrating techniques (IBP, partial fractions, harder U-subs, and improper integrals) which I already know alongside series and sequences which I don’t know. I get mixed feelings for stats on difficulty.

And I will definitely take biology. So senior year the APs I would have left would be AP Chemistry, AP literature, and maybe AP computer science if I can fit it in online or something (I know programming but my mom would Iike me to get credit with a class)

I would then have math and physics at my local college. I’m still in the process of trying to drop APUSH and make sure I can get credit for newbie level chemistry online. I’m thinking BYU chemistry online. Hear it’s easy but really I can teach myself with khan academy. I just want the credit :confused: any other sites I might consider?

Drop APUSH it is notorious for being one of (if not) the most demanding APs.
