To My Fellow Rejectees-It's Not Over!!!

We worked hard all through high school. We ran for the class offices. We stayed after school at all the club meetings. We worried obsessively about any imperfections in our apps. We fought tooth and nail to establish ourselves as that Unique, Passionate, Ideal Applicant.

Statistically, the chances of us getting in were unlikely. Nonetheless, the rejection emails or envelopes that landed in our mailboxes had to have been disheartening, painful, perhaps devastating.

But before we all go on to enroll in other great universities, achieve success and satisfaction in our lives, realize that Harvard or any other brand name uni isn't necessary for fulfillment of our life's goals, and eventually forget the sting of this unfortunate day, how many of us are sending Harvard this rejection letter?

Dear Admissions Committee:
Having reviewed the many rejection letters I have received in the last few weeks, it is with great regret that I must inform you I am unable to accept your rejection at this time.
This year, after applying to a great many colleges and universities, I received an especially fine crop of rejection letters. Unfortunately, the number of rejections that I can accept is limited.
Each of my rejections was reviewed carefully and on an individual basis. Many factors were taken into account - the size of the institution, student-faculty ratio, location, reputation, costs and social atmosphere.
I am certain that most colleges I applied to are more than qualified to reject me. I am also sure that some mistakes were made in turning away some of these rejections. I can only hope they were few in number.
I am aware of the keen disappointment my decison may bring. Throughout my deliberations, I have kept in mind the time and effort it may have taken for you to reach your decision to reject me.
Keep in mind that at times it was necessary for me to reject even those letters of rejection that would normally have met my traditionally high standards.
I appreciate your having enough interest in me to reject my application. Let me take the opportunity to wish you well in what I am sure will be a successful academic year.
SEE YOU IN THE FALL!
Sincerely,
Applicant at Large

:) I found it a few days ago, and I totally empathize with the writer.

No matter how many rejections you received/ will receive this week, remember to keep the big picture in perspective! No inferiority complexes, no suicide attempts, no depressive slumps, no regrets about working hard instead of slacking off through high school! You are an amazing person, and you will find happiness if you just make it work wherever you wind up in the fall. The college process is becoming crazy, especially with the baby boomer kids coming of age- its just too difficult to ever count on acceptances at places like Harvard. But hey, you're gonna be alright.

Congratulations to all those accepted!

lol here it is x)).. it IS different..i'll change the wording a bit to fit colleges

Dear __________________,
Thank you for your letter rejecting my application for admission to your university.
I have received rejections from an unusually large number of well qualified institutions. With such a varied and promising spectrum of rejections from which to select, it is impossible for me to consider them all. After careful deliberation, then, and because a number of universities have found me more unsuitable, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your rejection.

Despite your institution's outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet with my requirements at this time. As a result, I will be attending your school on the first of the month.

Circumstances change and one can never know when new demands for rejection arise. Accordingly, I will keep your letter on file in case my requirements for rejection change.

Please do not regard this letter as a criticism of your qualifications in attempting to refuse me admittance. I wish you the best of luck in rejecting future candidates.

Sincerely,

there!! lol someone send it

rofl 1011010

Oh, don't worry, chidori, I'm totally sending it ;)

Actually, I've achieved a level of calm with this whole admissions process. When I got my rejections from H&Y, I was disappointed sure, but not too surprised. It was pretty much like, "Oh well. Not the end of the world." At least we tried right? We shot for the stars, and that's the important part. I read an article here on CC a few months back that the people who apply to but don't get accepted to Ivy caliber schools are just as likely to achieve high levels of success as those who actually attended those same schools. lol I hope that claim is valid :)

bobi, that is hilarious but the message being loud and clear, don't get this get you down, as we all know a lousy 9% is indeed a very small group, you have an excellent attitude, too bad you can't let it rub off on some others on these boards, you will go far, the best of luck.

lol this is so good:) totally made my mood better!!!

Thanks for the kind words NYMOM- I appreciate it!
