Please help. My S has a conditional admittance to UC Berkeley. It's saying to have a minimum of 3.0 GPA for spring semester. It's also stating, if he planning to take any classes during summer, he needs the same minimum 3.0 GPA.
He is done with spring semester and it seems having a 4.0. Now he signed up for one philosophy class in Berkeley. If any of you taking or planning to take a summer class, do you have the same requirement for GPA and do you report you class to admission counselor?
I am more concern then my S. But what if he fail his first UC Berkeley class and receive a C? What do you think can happen? Any of you worry for the same thing? Thank you

Your son needs to report any summer courses he plans to take and aim to get a B or better in each summer course.

Thank you Ms. Sun for reply. But if it wasn’t required and, who knows, my S gets C, is it really a possibility of denial of admission? Kind of unfair. To be admitted, canceling all other offers and then denied for the only C. I am sure he’ll do fine. But I always imaging worst scenario. Thanks.

If he’s a good enough student to get into Cal, why are you worried he’ll get a C in such an easy class? Especially since he’s only taking one class?

Anyway, you can always call admissions and double check that the summer GPA requirement is also for classes taken at UCB.

Thank you, thecomfycat. I guess you right. He is a good student. Just wasn’t sure how the transition will go. Should be fine. But it’s not an easy class as it seems to some.
Yes, it’s a good idea to call and ask again.

Your S will be F-I-N-E at C-A-L. OK? Don’t stress him, or yourself out.

On my Condition of Admissions, it only says to maintain a 3.0 for the Winter/Spring terms. It doesn’t say anything about the summer. All it says is to let my Admission Officer know if I plan to take any courses…

Jayo2nice-Good advice, thank you.
Sgtbrecht- exactly the same was on my S conditional letter. Or may be little bit different.
However, if you wish to attend summerfor any other purpose (major requirements, courses of interest, etc)you must receive approval from your UC Berkeley Admissions Officer;consult with him/her by email no later thanMay 15, 2011about summer enrollment.
All UC-transferable courses must be completewith a 3.0 or higher GPA and no grade lower than a C.
NOTE: You may not attend a 4-year college/university, including the UC Berkeley Summer Session or UC Extension, without prior permission from your Admissions Officer.
This is from his adviser.
You can take courses at Summer Session, but that same GPA and grade minimums

But when my S told to his adviser he replied with unexpected-

Oh okay. The Condition of Admissions is definitely a little different than mine. It didn’t even say anything about the May 15th deadline for the summer enrollment. To be honest, it is kind of weird though because the deadline for the summer transcripts is the 4th of September. So by that time, the fall semester has already started to begin with. It’s kind weird if they kick you out while taking your Fall classes already lol…But since your S’ adviser said 3.0, then I guess it is required for him. I just emailed my adviser yesterday too about and she didn’t mention any grade requirements. I mean I’m only taking one supposedly easy class but I would be pressured if I have to get a B just to retain the UCB admission offer…

sgtbrecht- That’s how exactly he feels- pressured. Otherwise he was ready for more units. Of course my S had an option not to take any classes in summer. Just wondered if anyone else with the same conditions going to attend summer session.

Maybe he should take it lightly just in case, depends how much he can handle the pressure. Just curious which college in Berkeley required him to maintain the 3.0?

sgtbrecht- He applied to the College of Letters and Science. (Philosophy major)
