What is the fastest/easiest way to get from Ithaca to NYC (without flying)? Is there a bus service from Cornell? etc.

theres a shortline bus that picks you up on north campus and takes you straight to port authority. the tickets are about $70 round trip.

there is the c2cbus.com that goes from cornell to cornell in nyc straight, it is double the price however for a round trip and a 100 for a one way...

It does come with free wireless, however. And the chairs recline fully.

Given the cost, I'm guessing most people go with the Shortline rather than the "C2CBus".

how long does the c2cbus take? and where does it bring u to in nyc?

It stops at the Cornell Club and Weill

If I remember correctly, the Campus-to-Campus bus takes about 5 hours to get from the Cornell Club to Ithaca--pretty good time. I always pass out when I take it, so I can never really keep track of time. I would highly recommend it if you have extra money to spend; it's so much better than Shortline buses. The people on C2C aren't as eccentric as the people on Shortline, and C2C is much cleaner and more comfortable. Wireless Internet and free snacks and drinks are other bonuses.

how long is the drive and do kids often go to NYC for three day weekends or just regular weekends? I have a lot of friends attending Columbia and Penn and I would love to be able to visit them every once in a while.

I wouldn't say that people go to the city that often. People usually make the trip only if they have job/internship interviews or an event to go to. Some people do go to visit friends, but it's not that common. Still, it's definitely possible to spend a weekend in NYC. The drive is about 5-6 hours. One of my friends is a horrible driver, and it takes her about 8 hours.

cornellpride10, what do you mean by "eccentric" people on C2C?

I agree, C2C sounds attractive if you can afford it.

There are a fair amount of Greyhound-esque riders on the Shortline bus.

But if you really want an experience, take the bus to Boston with a layover at the Albany bus stop.

If you drive, I've done 79 to I81 to I380 to I80 to NYC in about 4 hours.

My daughter will probably bring a car to Cornell because she plans on being involved in an off campus EC, so it will be easier for her to have a car. I really don't want her driving home though (to Long Island), so how safe is it to leave a car in the lot when taking the bus home for shorter breaks (not the long winter break, but fall break, an occasional weekend, etc)?

As long as nothing is left out in the open in the car, it's completely safe.

Thanks! That was quick! :) Will her car be one of the only cars in the lot then, during break?

The lot will definitely thin out, but a fair number of students stay on campus for a variety of reasons.

or she will meet other kids from your area who would love a ride home with her , split gas and offer company...

Yeah. If you are from Long Island you will have no problem meeting people from your area.

She can easily get a ride home with some one else or drive home in her own car with other people. Also, a lot of people leave their cars at Cornell over breaks.

Campus to campus also only takes 4 hours max, while shortline always takes closer to 5.5. Shortline takes longer because it stops in binghamton and monticello. Campus to campus is much nicer, but much more expensive. It leaves Cornell at 530 am and 1230 pm and arrives in ny at 1030am and 430pm respectively. Shortline leaves offers a lot more time slots.

Driving yourself is the fastest and takes approx 3.5 to 4 hours to get to NY.
