So I just took a sat prep class for winter break to prepare for the January SAT (first time). They taught me for the essay that it is fine to use one example that you really are familiar with and make that the topic of the essay. I'm kind of curious as for other people who have already taken the SAT, how many examples did you use, if the examples related to each other in any way besides the thesis, and your score (if you're okay with sharing it)?

I think three is a good number of examples.

If you have time, I’d definitely do 3. If not, do 2. I don’t think that 1 would be enough.

On my last SAT, I used Hitler and MLK Jr. as contrasting examples.

I agree with sarahchristine. I would definitely go for three if possible. Try to fill up the 2 pages, and using more examples would help with that. Unfortunately, sometimes essay readers judge based on essay length.

I took the SAT once already, and I got an 11 on the essay with three examples.

I ised 3 historical or literary examples

I got two 10’s using two examples, but the examples were unique and not commonly used.
