I've seen that some people are having trouble getting classes at orientation, and I wanted to know from any previous transfers how much trouble (if any) had they had with getting classes for their major or popular classes (not courses easy professors but popular courses) and can you state your major also and any tips to get classes you wanted? like looking at the schedule to see if anyone drops?

I’m a EE major, and I didn’t have any trouble getting my classes. I made sure to sign up for the most popular classes first. I think it was A&A 10. The rest of my classes were fairly easy since EE classes usually never get full or professor hands out PTE # since people end up dropping the class. The first week is usually a trial run for most because they would like to get a feel how the quarter will go based on the professor’s syllabus or teaching style.

I’d like to know more about getting classes as a transfer? anyone care to be kind of enough to list their major and how difficult (if at all) is it for you to get the classes you wanted?

Economics w/ Accounting - No problem to get any classes I wanted. The only class I had trouble getting was a film class (it was too popular).

thanks Altema, how does the waitlist work for large classes? if you’re on it, does it mean you’re automatically in? and do professors do like add codes or pte from what I’ve seen, do they give those out a lot for large classes or if we come the first day and ask?

The waitlist works like any other class. If you are on it, you are not in the class. The good thing about a large class is that a lot of people will drop out since its so huge and people shift out their schedules. So I guess technically, if you are up on the wait list, you should be OK, but it’s not a sure thing.

I dont really remember how to get into a class you are still wait listed on. I think the teacher gives you a code to enter, but I never had to do anything to get my classes so I don’t have experience with doing it. The worst I have ever faced was being on the wait list but so many people dropped that I was moved into the class automatically.

i don’t have any ap units or anything and im transferring, I’m worried about getting classes, later. will it be extremely difficult to get classes if you are a transfer without any ap units?

I had 0 ap units when I transferred.

Altema, does your easiness with getting classes apply to classes in your major or other classes that you want to take, like ones that you find interesting not related to your major?

is it hard to take 4 upper division courses every quarter? What’s recommended?

That could be it, but I just never had any real trouble getting any of my classes except that one film class.

You need to stop worrying and just go on with yourself. Unless you plan to use the information you find here (change majors or something), there’s no point in constantly picking through it.

I took 3-4 upper division courses per quarter and what’s recommended is whatever you could handle. I did 4 once and I didn’t like it so I stuck with 3 every quarter.
